Mountaineers Wrap up Day Two of the Maverick Early Bird Open with Multiple Podium Finishes

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.  The Western Colorado track and field team wrapped up day two of the Maverick Early Bird Open on Saturday afternoon with another strong showing across both track and field events.

Western came out fast in the men's 1,500-meter run, led by Kellen Reed, who placed third with a time of 3:57.97. Close behind was Esteban Reyes, finishing fourth in 3:58.86.

In the hurdles, Addisyn Sweeney turned in a solid performance in the women's 100-meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 15.79 seconds. On the men's side, Camden Fox matched that effort in the 110-meter hurdles, also taking third in 15.93 seconds.

Giovonni Borjas highlighted the sprints for Western with a first-place finish in the men's 400-meter dash, clocking an impressive 48.67 seconds. Jeffrey Poku added to the sprint success with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash at 10.85 seconds.

Western dominated the women's 800-meter run, as Natalie Kessler claimed the title with a time of 2:17.52, while Jayda Nix added a third-place finish in 2:23.96. On the men's side, Nathan Lumaye secured third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.36.

Fox continued to contribute with a fourth-place finish in the men's 400-meter dash, crossing in 57.27 seconds. Sweeney later added another podium finish, taking third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.47 seconds.

In the field events, Kenyon Rook led the way in the men's discus with a fourth-place throw of 41.38 meters (135-9), followed closely by Jacob Doyle in fifth at 40.59 meters (133-2). On the women's side, Katrina Trahan placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 41.14 meters (135-0).

The Mountaineers excelled in the high jump, sweeping the top two spots. Brandon Kolb took first with a clearance of 1.95 meters (6-4.75), while Aiden Ellebracht matched the height to finish second.

In the men's shot put, Rook recorded a second-place finish with a throw of 14.61 meters (47-11.25) on his fifth attempt. Ethan VanMeter followed with a third-place mark of 14.34 meters (47-0.5). Johanna Brown led the women's shot put with a winning throw of 12.87 meters (42-2.75) on her first attempt, while Haylee Eacret placed third with a mark of 10.47 meters (34-4.25).

Up Next: The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday, March 27 where they will compete in the Jack Christiansen Invitational, hosted by Colorado State University. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
