GOLDEN, Colo., DENVER  Western Colorado heads into the weekend facing both teams tied for one spot behind the Mountaineers in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball standings.

Taking to the road for both, Western takes on Colorado School of Mines and MSU Denver as the three vie for fourth place in the standings and for the right to host an opening round game in the RMAC tournament in early March.

THE HISTORY
  • Mines is 33-39 overall in the series against Western but was closing that gap with eight consecutive wins before Western defeated the Orediggers last season, 61-55.
  • MSU Denver leads the series with the Mountaineers by a 14-10 advantage, but the Roadrunners have lost the last four meetings to Western, including an overtime game earlier this season.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2025-26 Stats
  • Western, 10-8 overall and 8-4 in the RMAC, split last weekends games, coming tantalizingly close to a sweep of the two game, falling in overtime against UC Colorado Springs but earning a 77-67 win two days later over Colorado Christian.
  • Mountaineer scoring leader Ivey Schmidt is third in the RMAC at 19.3 PPG, and her team best 6.7 RPG ranks eighth in the league. She also is the team's assist leader with 50 on the season.
  • Fellow guard Jayda Maves (13.8 PPG)  is the most dangerous threat from long range, dropping in 54 3-pointers, helping lift Western's 3-point field goal percentage (.390) to the top of the RMAC rankings.
  • One of the unsung players for the Mountaineers is Penelope Urquhart. She puts numbers up in most statistical categories, including 6.2 RPG, which is second on the team, 6.2 PPG and 20 3-pointers.
  • Western continues its tradition of forging an edge off the glass, posting a +6 rebounding margin, third best in the conference. That advantage helps balance out a minus-5 turnover margin.
COLORADO MINES HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Orediggers are 12-11 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC, but they've lost their last three outings to slip one spot behind Western in the conference standings.
  • Its slight +2 scoring margin disguises Mines' success from beyond the arc where its 175 triples are the most in the RMAC. Jenna Shandy (12.2 PPG) leads the team with 43 treys, but leading scorer Sofia Baldessari (19.4 PPG) is right behind with 40 3-pointers.
  • Baldessari and Shandy form a one-two punch for the Orediggers as along with their scoring, Baldessari leads the team off the glass with 7.9 RPG and Shandy is the team's assist leader with 72.
MSU DENVER HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Roadrunners, 9-11 overall and 7-5 in the league, host fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa Thursday night before continuing the weekend on Saturday against the Mountaineers.
  • MSUD has won four straight going into the game against the visiting Mavericks.
  • Mikylah Espinosa (18.0 PPG), Nevaeh Millard (12.9) and Jadyn Watts (10.7) pace the offense, including Espinosa's team-leading 29 3-pointers, getting help from distance by Millard's 25 treys.
  • Espinosa is the spark in the offensive end, not only leading the team in scoring but also in setting up the offense wit a total of 68 assists.
  • Forward Keira Mitchell is relied upon to come away with rebounds for the Roadrunners, her 7.4 RPG ahead of Watts' 6.7 RPG.
  • MSUD's turnover margin is dead even at +0, but its turned the ball over 11, 16 and 21 times in its last three outings.
