- The duo of Gomez and Bates set Western off on a fast track in both duals, pushing Western in front 12-0 against the ThunderWolves then lifting the Mountaineers to a 7-0 start at Highlands.
- Along with Cabral's wins in both matches at 157, Eyan Chavez at 149, Hunter Richardson at 184 and Riley Butt at 285 each finished the week unbeaten.
#17 CHADRON STATE ENTERING THE DUAL
- The Eagles enter Thursday's dual with a 5-2 overall record and a 3-1 mark in RMAC action, that lone conference loss coming last Saturday against visiting Adams State.
- Chadron has won the past two duals against Western, after dropping the previous two matchups with the Mountaineers.
- The only two losses of the season have been against Adams State and early in the season at top-ranked Nebraska-Kearney.
- The Eagles bring three ranked wrestlers to Paul Wright Gym Thursday evening. Quade Smith is ranked fourth at 125 pounds, Caleb Chaves is 14th at 141, and Keegan Gehlhausen is No. 4 at 185 in the most recent NWCA individual rankings.
- Gehlhausen was the lone winner of the three in the dual against Adams State, winning a 7-0 decision. But Chaves went into triple overtime before dropping a tight 3-2 decision, and Smith lost a 7-1 decision to Adams State's second-ranked Isaiah Gamez.
