GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado earned a third-place tie in the women's team standings and a 6th place in the men's standings when the 2026 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships concluded Saturday afternoon in the Mountaineer Field House.
The women vaulted from seventh place after the initial day of the championships on Friday, elevated by first-place finishes in the high jump and in the 3,000 meter run.
Nykole Meshew was the first individual champion of the meet for Western, taking first place in the high jump with a final height of 1.68 meters (5 feet-6.00 inches).
In the final individual event of the meet on the oval,
Lauren Willson raced to a dominating victory in the 3,000, winning by 11 seconds with her time of 10 minutes, 11.83 seconds.
In both events teammates added points to the Mountaineer total.
Kyla Wolitzky was third in the high jump at 1.63m (5-4.25), and in the 3,000
Annaka Rudolph (10:42.98) placed seventh and
Jayda Nix (10:44.42) was eighth.
Stepping up on the podium twice during Saturday's events was sprinter
Myia Dantzler. She raced to third place in the 60m dash with a season best time of 7.55 seconds, then later in the meet scored a second-place finish for Western with her time of 24.82 in the 200.
The Western men added podium finishes Saturday from
Brandon Kolb and
Shawn Carter.
Carter flew to second place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.99m (49-2.25) on his first jump of the championship round.
And in the men's high jump, Kolb earned a spot on the third-place podium step with best height of 1.96m (6-5.00). Also scoring in the event for Western was Aiden Allebracht who cleared a season best 1.96m to tie for sixth place (based on jumps and misses).
Included in top eight point-scoring finishes for Western on Saturday were:

- Natalie Kessler – 5th, women's 800
- Emma Kjellsen – 6th, women's mile
- Tyler Nord – 8th, men's 3,000
- Joseph Purbrick – 5th, men's 60m hurdles
- Alissa Rall – 6th, women's 800
- Will Stone – 7th, men's 400
- Katrina Trahan – 8th, women's weight throw
- 4x400 women's relay – 8th (Meghan Benkendorf, Kiarra Lapp, Iris Hicks, Kessler)
- 4x400 men's relay – 7th (Giovonni Borjas, RJ Hines, Nathan Lumaye, Amos)
