CHADRON, Neb., RAPID CITY, S.D.  The final two games of the regular season see Western Colorado taking to the road as it looks to improve its current fifth-place spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.

The Mountaineers improve their chances at hosting a first round RMAC tournament game if they can sweep the weekend's games at Chadron State and at South Dakota Mines.

THE HISTORY
  • Western comes into the Chadron State game with a 9-15 series mark against the Eagles, but have won the last two games and six of the past seven contests.
  • The Mountaineers and Hardrockers are even at 8-8 all time, but Western has won the last three including a 73-61 win over SDM earlier this season in Gunnison, Colo.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Mountaineers had won three straight before dropping a road game to fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa last weekend. They hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season with an overall record of 14-10 and an RMAC mark of 12-6.
  • This is the second consecutive season Western has won more than 10 RMAC games. The last time the program had a stretch such as this was when it crested 10+ wins in each of the 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.
  • The Mountaineers continue to pose a strong presence around the rim, ranking third in the league with a +5.7 rebounding margin, while in the offensive end Western is the RMAC's top-shooting 3-point team with a .369 3FG%.
  • Leading the way from long range is Jayda Maves, whose 67 triples are the most in the conference, and her .435 3FG% tops the league and is fourth highest in NCAA Division II.
  • Ivey Schmidt's team-leading 19.5 PPG is fourth in the RMAC and 20th in DII, and she also leads the Mountaineers off the glass with 7.0 RPG.
  • Speaking of around the glass, Chloe Daniels get more and more formidable in the paint as she's blocked 28 shots this season, fourth most in the RMAC, and has accumulated 11 of those in the most recent six games.
CHADRON STATE HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Eagles are working through a difficult season, posting a 1-22 overall record and a 1-17 mark heading into the game against Western. Chadron's lone win on the season came in a 68-53 victory at Regis University.
  • That 15-point victory shows that the Eagles have the ability to challenge opponents, and they can due to a lineup that spreads the responsibilities.
  • Audrey Quintana is one of two scoring in double figures for CSC, averaging 10.1 PPG, a figure buoyed by 34 buckets from behind the 3-point line.
  • Chadron's most dangerous long-range threat, though, is Ella Moser, with 47 treys while averaging 8.8 PPG.
  • Distributing the rock in the offensive end falls to Kenna Wagner, who has dished out 66 assists and adds 6.9 PPG to the attack.
  • The work around the glass is a two-person duty, with McKenzi Peterson leading the team in rebounding at 4.9 RPB and Amya Winfrey coming down with 4.2 per outing.
SOUTH DAKOTA MINES COMING INTO THE GAME | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Hardrockers enter a Thursday game at No. 4 Colorado Mesa with a 7-11 RMAC record and a 9-17 overall record. They had won two in a row before dropping their last three games.
  • SDM is like Western in that it likes the look from behind the 3-point line. The Hardrockers have made 176 triples, fifth most in the RMAC, and their 30.7% shooting from behind the line is sixth in the league.
  • Rebounding has been an issue as SDM enters the weekend averaging a minus-6 in rebounding margin, a figure that might worsen going against the league's second and fourth-ranked rebounding teams in the conference this weekend.
  • Savea Mayfield is the team's leading scorer at 16.0 PPG, and she likes to work in close with only 13 3-pointers all season.
  • Mayfield is the team's second leading rebounder (5.3 RPG) behind the dependable Morning Grace Spotted Bear's 6.9 average. Spotted Bear is also the team's second leading scorer at 12.6 PPG.
  • Challenging Western's Maves for the RMAC 3-point title is SDM's Addison Miranda, who has accumulated 65 treys this season to trail Maves' total by just two.
  • Getting the ball to Mayfield, Spotted Bear and Miranda is the job of Carolina Ruiz Molina who has dished out 73 assists on the year.
UP NEXT
  • Western had already clinched a spot in the RMAC postseason tournament prior to the weekend, but where it will play is still up for grabs.
  • Fifth in the current RMAC standings, the Mountaineers with a weekend sweep could end up as high as third with some help from other teams.
  • Should Western finish in third or fourth, it would host an opening-round game at Paul Wright Gym on Tue., March 3.
