  • The Mountaineer cross country teams are gearing up for the 2026 RMAC Cross Country Championships this Saturday in South Dakota, as both the men's and women's squads look to make their mark against the conference's top competition.
  • The ninth-ranked men's team enters the championships with a wealth of experience, and several runners poised for big performances. Tyler Nord and Oliver Diaz will lead the charge after strong showings at last year's championships. Diaz finished 10th overall, while Nord placed 14th, and both will look to build on those performances this weekend. Gable Rial has also stepped into a significant role for Western this season, giving the Mountaineers another key contributor to watch. The trio will look to lead Western's efforts as the team competes for an RMAC title.
  • On the women's side, the fifth-ranked Mountaineers will be led by Lauren Willson and Peyton Weiss. Weiss earned All-RMAC honors last season with an 11th-place finish and will look to improve upon that performance this Saturday. Willson also had a strong showing, earning Second Team All-RMAC honors with a 24th-place finish. Both runners will play an important role as Western looks to climb the standings and compete among the conference's best.
  • With both teams nationally ranked and returning key contributors from last season, the Mountaineers are ready to make a statement at the 2026 RMAC Cross Country Championships.

  • It's the 101st meeting between the Orediggers and the Mountaineers, the longest running football rivalry in the state of Colorado. Western won the 100th meeting last season, defeating visiting Mines 40-17 to improve its series record to 54-44-2.
  • The Orediggers bring a 6-2-1 overall record into Saturday's game, all six victories coming in their last six outings.
  • Mines' offense is averaging 29 PPG but will be met by a Mountaineer defense that ranks first in the league allowing just 14 PPG. The Orediggers' defense has proven be nearly as stout, ranking just behind Western at 17 PPG, but it will be tested by the Mountaineers' 44 PPG offense.
  • CSM's Max Barnes is second in the conference in rushing, averaging 77 YPG on the ground to lead the team, but Western has a stable of running backs in Lamonte James (47 YPG), Damien Nevil (45 YPG), and Isaiah Jones (37 YPG) who keep each other fresh and pound away behind a veteran offensive line.
  • Mountaineer quarterback Josiah Roy ranks second in the league in passing with 228 YPG through the air, but he'll find a formidable opponent in his counterpart, Joseph Capra, who is right behind in the rankings at 219 YPG.
  • The latest NPI rankings have Western at No. 5 in Super Region 4, while Mines is at No. 14 in the region. In the national NPI, the Mountaineers are No. 11 with CSM ranked 35th.
