- Western will open the week on Tuesday, October 6, when the Mountaineers welcome Fort Lewis College to Paul Wright Gym for a 6 p.m. matchup. The Skyhawks hold an 18-8 advantage in the all-time series against Western. In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Fort Lewis came away with a 3-0 victory. Western will look to turn the tables this time around with the home crowd behind them.
- The Mountaineers will then hit the road on Friday, October 9, traveling to Golden to take on Colorado School of Mines at 6 p.m. Mines currently holds a 21-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-0 victory in the last matchup between the two teams. Western will have another opportunity to challenge one of the top teams in the conference as the Mountaineers look to make their mark on the road.
- Offensively, Western will rely on the production of several key players. Andrea Torres and Sierra Long currently lead the Mountaineers with 136 kills each this season. Both players have provided a consistent presence at the net and will look to continue that production throughout the week.
- Setting up the Mountaineer attack, Olivia Moore leads the team with 279 assists, while Anuhea Ka'alele has added 246 assists. The duo will play a key role in helping Western establish its offense and create opportunities for the Mountaineers' attackers.
- Defensively, Galatia Andrew continues to lead the way for Western with 223 digs on the season. Maggie Legg has also made an impact in the back row, recording 155 digs. With two challenging opponents on the schedule, the Mountaineers will look to their defensive leaders to keep rallies alive and help create opportunities on the offensive end.
CROSS COUNTRY at PRE-NATIONALS
Sun., Oct. 10, 9:30 a.m. MT (M-8K)/10:15 a.m. MT (W-6K) | Rim Rock Farm | Lawrence, Kan.
- The Mountaineers head to the Midwest to race on the same course on which the season's NCAA Division II national race will be competed.
- Western opened its schedule with its annual Time Trial and the 17th Annual Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite, so the Pre-Nationals meet will be the first major competition of the year for the men's and women's programs.
- With the men's 8-kilometer race kicking off the morning, Western's Tyler Nord, Kellen Reed, Branden Davis, Gable Rial, Aiden Wieskamp, Wyatt Hoover and Nathan Lumaye will step into the team's starting box at Rim Rock Farm to compete against several DII teams they expect to see at the end of the season.
- Likewise, Lauren Willson, Peyton Weiss, Annaka Rudolph, Natalie Kessler, Brighton Mooney, Ella Smart and Kate Horneck will take to the women's 6K course competing against many of the squads they'll see at Nationals in early December.

- The Mountaineers took care of business with the previous weekend's road trip, downing Adams State, 3-1, on Oct. 1 followed by a 3-0 shutout victory two days later at New Mexico Highlands.
- Western will not only be looking to extend its win streak but will also be trying to end an 11-game losing streak to Mines. The Mountaineers' last victory against the Orediggers was a 3-2 double-overtime victory in Oct. 2016 in Gunnison.
- Jordan Welsh is on a hot streak for Western, scoring three of the team's six goals on the road trip, including both game-winning goals. Her outburst lifted Welsh's career goals total to 10, tying the program's career goals record.
- Ashlyn Fitzpatrick has started six of the team's eight games and posts a 2.40 goals-against average in over 560 minutes between the pipes. She stepped onto the pitch to take over in goal at halftime of the Adams State game and proceeded to make seven saves to keep the Grizzlies off the scoreboard in the second half. She played all 90 at Highlands and came up with three saves to record her first shutout of the season
