GUNNISON, Colo. Two Mountaineers earned NCAA Division II indoor track and field provisional marks Saturday at the Big Red Machine Open at Western Colorado's Mountaineer Field House, while another bettered a time in an event in which she already had a provisional time.
In the third event on the track,
Tyler Nord raced to a win in the men's mile, crossing the finish in a time of 4 minutes, 16.74 seconds, a clocking that translates with the altitude adjustment to 4:02.41, the first provisional result of the day and the seventh fastest DII time in the event this indoor season.
Shortly after,
Shawn Carter hit the horizontal strip of the men's triple jump and on his fifth leap, landed with a winning and provisional mark of 14.71 meters (48 feet-3.25 inches), one that measures as the 29th best in DII.
In the final individual event of the Open, Western's
Allison Beasley toed the start line of the women's 3,000-meter run. She already had a provisional time in the event but on Saturday bettered that time, winning the event in a time of 10:17.14. With the altitude adjustment her time stands 11th on the indoor performance list, translating to 9:41.31.

The Mountaineers will split into two groups for Jan. 30-31 meets, one heading to Golden, Colo., for the Mines Winter Classic and Multi, while the other travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the New Mexico Team Open.
