Bains Named to AFCA Board of Trustees

WACO, Texas  Western Colorado head coach Jas Bains has been named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Board of Trustees, as announced by the organization Monday morning.

Bains, the NCAA Division II representative, is one of seven new members to be named to the board, joining Trinity (Texas) University head coach Jerheme Urban (DIII rep.); Liberty (Va.) University head coach Jamey Chadwell (Conference USA); Army West Point head coach Jeff Monken (American Athletic Conference); Western Michigan University head coach Lance Taylor (Mid-American Conference); Brigham Young University head coach Kalani Sitake (Big-12); and Southern Methodist University head coach Rhett Lashlee (Atlantic Coast Conference) as new members named to the board.

The AFCA board "formulates policy and provides direction for the AFCA," as stated in Monday's official release.

Bains has led the Mountaineers into the NCAA DII playoffs in three of the past four seasons, during which Western has compiled an overall record of 38-10. It's 11-2 record in 2024 was the first 11-win season in program history.

In each of the NCAA playoff seasons (2024, 2023, 2021) Bains was voted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year, and after sharing the RMAC title in 2021 – Western's first since 1998 – Bains was also voted the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year.

The AFCA board was founded in 1922 by Almos Alonzo Stagg, John Heisman and other prominent coaches.
