Four Earn Top-20 Finishes at T&F Championships

INDIANAPOLIS  Western Colorado Track and Field completed the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & FIeld Championships with top-18 finishes by its four Mountaineer competitors.

Emma Kjellsen began her run in lane three of her preliminary heat of the women's mile. She was placed in between two runners from Adams State. She switched between eighth and ninth place during her run and finished ninth in the heat and placed 15th overall with a time of 4 minutes, 52.23 seconds.

Sammie Bretz hit her opening height of 1.62 meters (5 feet-3.75 inches) in the women's high jump competition. She then moved on to the next jump, clearing 1.67m (5-5.75) on her second attempt. She missed all three attempts, though, at 1.72m (5-7.75), which landed her in a tie for 14th place.

Allison Beasley earned herself a season best time in the timed final of the women's 3,000m run, crossing the finish line in 13th place with a time of 9:35.90. She pushed through the 400m mark in seventh place before slipping back to 15th at the mile mark. Over the final 1,400 meters Beasley was able to move up two spots at the finish.

In the men's mile, Esteban Deniz finished 18th overall, posting a time of 4:13.41 in his preliminary heat. Deniz kicked off his run seeded fifth in heat 2. He stayed steady in eighth place before slipping back at the finish to ninth place in the heat and 18th overall.
