Sammie Bretz led a 1-2 Western Colorado finish in the women's high jump Saturday at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, clearing a career-best height of 1.78 meters (5 feet-10 inches).
The championship concluded late Saturday afternoon with the Western men finishing in fourth place with 53 points and the Mountaineer women placing sixth with 53 points.
Colorado School of Mines captured the women's title with 140.5 points, and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs took the men's title with 191 points in their own facility at the Mountain Lion Field House.
Nykole Meshew earned the second-place finish behind Bretz in the high jump, finishing her competition at 1.64m (5-4.5).
Western picked up third and sixth places in the men's high jump.
Zac Grable registered a season-best height of 1.99m (6-6.25) for third and
Torrin Franklin cleared 1.84m (6-0.25) for sixth while also hitting a season best.
The women provided another first-place finish as
Eireann Donohoe captured the title in the triple jump. Sitting in fourth place after four jumps, Donohoe landed a winning jump of 11.83m (38-9.5) on her next attempt, a leap that withstood the rest of the fields' final attempts.
Like with the high jump, the Mountaineers scored twice on the men's side of the event.
Nolan Kemper landed a season best 14.48m (48-7) for third place and
Cullen McReynolds (13.73m / 45.05) took eighth.
Earlier in the day Western had earned its first points on Saturday from
Jacob Doyle. His toss of 14.81m (48-7) earned a seventh-place finish and was Doyle's season-best throw this winter.
The oval at the Field House contributed the remainder of Western's points on Saturday.
John Houdeshell and
Myia Dantzler posted fourth-place finishes on the track for the Mountaineers.
Houdeshell was fourth in the men's mile in a time of 4 minutes, 19.48 seconds, and Dantzler was fourth in the women's 60-meter dash in a time of 7.55 seconds.
Dantzler doubled up for the Mountaineers, racing to a sixth place in the 200 in a time of 25.30 seconds.
In the women's mile,
Emma Kjellsen (5:09.46) earned an eighth-place finish, and in the longer 3,000m run,
Allison Beasley (10:00.78) took fifth.
James Duncan scored a third-place finish for Western in the men's 60 hurdles, with a time of 8.17 seconds, and
Kelia Portis ran the women's 400 in 58.74 to grab sixth place.
The Western women gained one more sixth place, getting it from
Peyton Weiss (2:16.41) in the 800.
In the final event on Saturday,
Giovonni Borjas,
Will Stone,
Arvell Amos and Duncan teams up to take sixth place in the 4x400m relay, combining for a time of 3:22.84.
