POCATELLO, Idaho Western Colorado track & field earned two NCAA provisional times in meets at two different locations Friday, while also adding several personal bests at the Mountain State Games hosted by Idaho State University.
The first provisional happened in Seattle as the Mountaineers'
Allison Beasley represented the program at the University of Washington's Husky Classic, where she was the fastest non-Division I finisher in the women's 3,000-meter run.
Beasley crushed the provisional time of 9 minutes, 53.07 seconds to post the 12th-fastest time in DII, setting a personal best with a time of 9:32.17.
In Idaho, the quartet of
Emma Kjellsen,
Kelia Portis,
Peyton Weiss and
Lauren Willson combined for a first-place finish in the women's distance medley relay. Their time of 11:51.32 is a provisional time and could be ranked as high as 11th in DII after the weekend.
James Duncan had a stellar day in Idaho for the Mountaineers. He registered a PR in placing 13th in the men's 200m dash (22.77 seconds), and qualified for Saturday's final of the 60m hurdles after posting the third-fastest time (8.40) in Friday's prelims.
The men's 400 prelims saw three runners from Western advance to Saturday's final.
Will Stone set a PR and is seeded sixth with his Friday prelims time of 49.98, with
Giovonni Borjas (10th, 51.79) and
Ethan Cline (12th, a PR of 52.64) joining him in Saturday's final.
Portis posted a season best in the women's 400, her time of 57.93 advancing her into the women's final of the event on Saturday. Just missing out on moving on to the 400 final was
Myia Dantzler (13th, 1:00.11 PR), but Dantzler earned a Saturday final spot in the 200 with her fourth-place finishing time of 24.96 in the Friday prelims of the women's 200.
Emma Berg (18:17.08),
Haley Wood (18:18.67) and
Lacey Kunz (18:38.75) each recorded a PR in their top-25 placings in the women's 5,000. Berg finished 13th,
Gretchen Slattum (18:17.59) was 14th, Wood was 15th, and Kunz place 21st.
In field events,
Cullen McReynolds and
Nolan Kemper place in the top five of the men's long jump with new PRs. McReynolds finished third with a best leap of 7.02-meters (23 feet-00.50 inches), and Kemper (6.72m, 22-00.75) was fifth.
Eireann Donohoe added a fourth place in the women's long jump, her best leap landing in the pit at 5.38m (17-08.00).
Another PR was set in the women's pole vault, as
Aaleiah Porter-Gyll cleared a height of 3.26m (10-08.25) to place 12th in the event.
The Mountain State Games continue on Saturday with the final day of the two-day competition.
