ALAMOSA, Colo.  Western Colorado begins it's weekend road trip with a visit to Adams State University on Thursday, then finishes up on Saturday afternoon against the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College. 

The Mountaineers are tied for second place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball standings and are looking to earn home-court advantage in the conference playoffs with a couple more wins. 

THE HISTORY 
  • Adams State has won the last six outings with the Mountaineers to take an 18-14 series lead over Western. 
  • The Skyhawks are 28-8 against the Mountaineers, but a 75-57 home win earlier this season ended a four-game Fort Lewis winning streak. 
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | Leaders & Stats
  • The Mountaineers moved to 15-6 overall and 10-4 in the RMAC with a weekend sweep of Colorado School of Mines and MSU Denver. Western rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 61-55 victory against visiting Mines, then scorched the Roadrunners, 79-49, to complete the season sweep of MSU Denver. 
  • The Mountaineers continue to lead the RMAC in rebounding, coming away with 40.9 per game and averaging a +9.5 rebounding margin. 
  • The Mountaineers are 12th in the league in scoring, averaging 62.3 PPG, but they are second in the conference in scoring margin (+7.2) and first in the league in points allowed (55.0 PPG). 
  • Ivey Schmidt (12.4 PPG) and Rachel Cockman (12.0 PPG) are the team's leading scorers, and both are the team's leading rebounders as well, Schmidt coming away with 7.3 RPG and Cockman pulling down 6.2 per game. 
  • Schmidt quarterbacks the offense, not only leading the Mountaineers in scoring but also in assists (61). 
  • Western, which hit 13 3-pointers in the win over MSU Denver, is led from behind the arc by Jayde Tschritter's 39 triples and Jayda Maves' 32. 
ADAMS STATE HEADING INTO THE GAME | Leaders & Stats
  • The Grizzlies are 14-9 overall and 9-5 in league play, and are one game back from Western in the standings, tied with CSU Pueblo for fourth place. 
  • ASU started last week with a 79-49 win at Fort Lewis, but dropped a 77-66 game on Saturday to visiting New Mexico Highlands. 
  • The Grizzlies are fourth in the league in scoring (69.4 PPG) and scoring margin (+3.1). 
  • However, they average a minus-9.6 rebounding margin, coming down with only 32.7 RPG.  
  • Kiiyani Anitielu (15.4 PPG), Taejhuan Hill (13.4) and Angelline Nageak (11.7) are all averaging double figures in scoring for the Grizzlies. 
  • Hill is the team's leading rebounder at 9.5 RPG, while Nageak is the ace from 3-point range (39 total) while also dishing out a team-high 85 assists. 
FORT LEWIS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | Leaders & Stats
  • The Skyhawks (6-16, 3-11) host league leader Colorado Mesa University on Thursday before welcoming the Mountaineers for a Saturday game. 
  • Fort Lewis is coming off a pair of losses, the first the loss to Adams State and the second a 77-64 loss to N.M. Highlands. 
  • The Skyhawks are averaging 63.3 PPG but a minus-3.8 scoring margin. And off the glass, they average 34.0 RPG and post a minus-2.7 rebounding margin going into the games with Mesa and Western. 
  • Fort Lewis has three players averaging double digits in scoring. Daria Hernandez leads the way with10.8 PPG, followed by Deniece Ryan (10.2) and Katie Lamb (10.0). Livia Knapp is just shy of double figures, averaging 9.9 PPG. 
  • Knapp has doled out 59 assists to lead the team, while Lamb is the 3-point leader with a total of 46 treys. 
  • Hernandez sets the pace in rebounding for the Skyhawks, averaging 7.5 per game.

  • Western is back home in Paul Wright Gym next weekend, brining in Chadron State on Feb. 20 and South Dakota Mines on Feb. 22.
