Peyton Weiss posted the fastest women's mile time in NCAA Division II on Saturday, winning the event at the Mountaineer Open in a time of 5 minutes, 2.30 seconds.
Weiss' win was one of four by a Mountaineer on Day 2 of the Open.
Max Kittsteiner and
Josh Ewing went 1-2 in the men's pole vault, with Kittsteiner clearing a height of 4.45 meters (14 feet-7 inches) and Ewing clearing 4.10m (13-5.25).
In the other vertical jump,
Brandon Kolb and
Aiden Ellebracht finished first and third in the men's high jump. The pair both cleared a final height of 1.94m (6-4.25) but Kolb earned the top spot on earlier misses by Ellebracht.
Also on the men's side,
Bridger Lynch took first place in the men's heptathlon, totaling 4,300 points, capping the win with a first-place finish in the final event, the 1,000m run.
Along with Weiss from the women's side,
Aaleiah Porter-Gyll topped everyone in the women's pole vault. She cleared her penultimate height on her second attempt, then cleared her winning height of 3.45m (11-3.75) on her first attempt.
The Mountaineers claimed several runner-up finishes, including
Allison Beasley in the women's 3,000m run (10:22.16);
Johanna Brown in the women's shot put (12.62, 41-4.75);
Kyla Wolitzky in the women's high jump (1.62, 5-3.75); and
Addisyn Sweeney in the women's pentathlon (3,150 points).
Runner-up finishes from Mountaineer men included
Tyler Nord in the 3,000 (8:41.96), and in a second and third finish in the men's 200m dash,
Giovonni Borjas (22.64) and
Will Stone (22.67).
