LAKEWOOD, Colo.  It is the beginning of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening as the Mountaineers travel to take on the host Cougars of Colorado Christian University, then stay on the road to visit Colorado State Pueblo on Saturday afternoon.

WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Mountaineers (2-2) have played to splits on their opening weeks. They opened at home with a 16-point win over Angelo (Texas) State, but dropped the opening game of a three-game swing into Texas, losing by one point to host St. Mary's University.
  • Western downed Texas A&M International by seven points in the opener of the St. Edward's Thanksgiving Tournament but fell by 10 points to the host Hilltoppers the next day.
  • The Mountaineers, shooting 42 percent from the floor, are led by a trio of players scoring in double figures. Ivey Schmidt leads the way at 17.8 points per game, while Alyssa Eckroth follows at 13.0 PPG and Jayda Maves is adding 11.8 PPG.
  • Penelope Urquhart's 8.8 rebounds per game, along with Schmidt's 8.0 RPG, have helped Western forge a 39-34 average rebounding margin over opponents.
  • One area in which the Mountaineers will need to clean up a bit is in the turnover department. They enter the weekend with a minus-3.8 turnover margin, a figure that is translating to an average of 16.0 points off turnovers for their opponents.
  • Western split with CCU last season with each team winning at home. CSU Pueblo has taken the last four outings between the Mountaineers and ThunderWolves.
COLORADO CHRISTIAN HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025-26 Stats
  • The Cougars are only 1-5 on the season, but their one victory was a 14-point neutral-site win over then-No. 20 University of Texas at Tyler.
  • Since a 37-point defeat at Florida Southern College on Nov. 20, CCU has followed with narrow three-point and five-point defeats, signaling a turnaround after its Florida trip.
  • The Cougars enter Thursday's game averaging an 11-point scoring deficit and a rebounding deficit average of 38-32. They, too, will look to improve in the turnovers department, coming into the game with a minus-2.0 turnover margin.
  • CCU doesn't have one player averaging double-digits, but instead spread the scoring mostly among three players. Jordan Heckert (8.8 PPG) leads the way while Elise Grosdidier (8.7) and Ja'Shelle Johnson (8.7) are right there with her.
  • Heckert's 4.8 RPG along with 4.7 RPG by Grosdidier pace the Cougars off the glass.
CSU PUEBLO HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025-26 Stats
  • The ThunderWolves (3-4) will try to break even with Thursday's game against visiting Westminster (Utah) University before welcoming Western on Saturday.
  • CSUP halted a four-game losing streak with commanding wins in their recent two games, pounding out an 84-34 win over visiting Western New Mexico on Nov. 28 followed a day later by a 73-49 win over Northern New Mexico.
  • The ThunderWolves are nearly even in PPG (62-60) and field goal percentage (.383 to .378) with their opponents, but a slight rebounding deficit (41-37) might play into Western's hands in Saturday's game.
  • Five players are averaging at least four – but not five – rebounds per game, led by Dasani Nesbit's 4.9 RPG.
  • CSUP has a pair of players averaging double figures. Seneya Martinez posts an 11.3 PPG mark, while Genisis Sweetwine averages 10.7 PPG.
UP NEXT
Western returns home to Paul Wright Gym for its next two RMAC games, taking on MSU Denver on Dec. 11 and Regis University on Dec. 13.
