GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado track & field continues its indoor schedule on Saturday afternoon by hosting the annual Big Red Machine Open beginning at 1 p.m. in the Mountaineer Field House.
The program is following up on its participation one week agon in the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite.
ATHLETES TO WATCH
- Logan Butterfield, Cullen McReynolds and Eireann Donohoe are names to keep track of in the field events on Saturday.
- Butterfield will compete in the men's weight throw. At the UCCS Invite he registered a best toss of 17.60 meters (57 feet-8.75 inches).
- McReynolds hit the horizontal runway at the Invite. In the men's long jump he recorded a best leap of 6.99m (22-11.25), and in the triple jump hit a mark of 13.79m (45-3). McReynolds will compete in both events at the Open and will also add the 60-meter dash to his schedule.
- Donohoe hit jumps of 5.38m (17-8) in the women's long jump and 11.05m (36-3) in the triple jump at the UCCS Invite, and she will compete in both events in Saturday's Open.
- James Duncan will make his season debuts in the men's 60 and 200 at the Open after competing in the 60 hurdles and on a 4x400 relay at the UCCS Invite.
- Myia Dantzler is another Western sprinter, posting a time of 7.69 seconds in the women's 60 last week and later running as a member of the Mountaineers' 4x400 relay team. At the Open she will run the 60 and the 200.
- Allison Beasley kicked off her indoor season on the right foot at the Invite, winning the women's mile by 10 seconds with a time of 5 minutes, 5.56 seconds. She will run both the mile and the 3,000 at the Open on Saturday.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will split their squad for Feb. 14-15 meets, with one contingent heading to Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic and the other traveling to Pocatello, Idaho, for Idaho State's Mountain State Games.
