GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado women's basketball hosts Northern New Mexico College on Saturday afternoon in the Mountaineers' final non-conference game on the 2024-25 schedule.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2024-25 Stats
- Western, at 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, carries a two-game winning streak into Saturday's game, posting RMAC road wins over Metropolitan State University Denver and Regis University in mid-December games.
- The Mountaineers had charted a five-game win streak before that was halted in their RMAC opener against visiting Colorado State Pueblo, bouncing back immediately to start a new streak with the win at MSU Denver.
- It's 68-50 win at Regis on Dec. 14 was Western's first win on the Rangers' home court since 2011.
- The Mountaineer defense leads the RMAC, allowing just 57.6 points per game. Western also leads the league in rebounds per game (39.5), rebounding margin (plus-9.5), and team 3-point field goal percentage (0.338).
- Rachel Cockman leads the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game, with teammate Ivey Schmidt (10.4 PPG) joining her in averaging double figures.
- Cockman's 8.5 rebounds per game is sixth highest amongst RMAC players, and her 14 blocked shots rate fourth most in the conference.
- Schmidt has also been a contributor off the glass, averaging 5.9 RPG to rank 15th in the RMAC.
- Western's 3-point success has been buoyed by Jayde Tschritter and Jayda Maves. Tschritter has knocked down 20 treys, while Maves has dropped in 16.
- The Western roster has proven to be a deep one, as not one player is listed in the top 20 of RMAC players in minutes played. Tschritter tops the group, at 30.3 minutes per game, with a total of nine players averaging double-digit minutes per game.
NORTHERN NEW MEXICO HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2024-25 Stats
- The Eagles come into the game riding a seven-game winning streak, elevating their season record to 13-9. In their most recent outing, they defeated Western New Mexico (58-50) after downing the RMAC's Fort Lewis College (63-52) two days earlier.
- Averaging 71.2 points per game, NMNU is defeating opponents by an average of 13.5 points.
- Part of the Eagles' success is coming from long range, as they are hitting 7.7 3-pointer per game, with a success rate of 36 percent. Gillian Roybal has been the marksman from behind the arc, hitting 49 triples at a rate of nearly 47 percent.
- Roybal's 9.9 PPG trails only Ethena Silva's mark of 11.8.
- Silva is second on the team in rebounding with a total of 86 for the season, while Miranda Salazar leads the team with 93 rebounds.
- Salazar is also dishing out a team-leading 73 assists, and has been efficient with the task, posting a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
- Western defeated NNMC, 69-35, earlier in the season in a neutral-site contest in Durango, Colo., where host Fort Lewis earned a 67-57 win the next day.
