Western 16th in Nation After Winter Seasons

WESTLAKE, Ohio  On Thursday the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics released the standings of the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup after the winter sport seasons, a ranking that shows Western Colorado 16th among its NCAA Division II peers.

The Mountaineers have accumulated 349.5 points to maintain their spot in the top 20 after closing out the fall season in 15th place.

Western picked up 67.5 points from the men's indoor track & field team's 10th-place finish at the NCAA indoor championship meet. The women's team finished in 22nd place to contribute 50 points to the winter total.

Men's wrestling also added to the total, finishing 22nd at its national championships to earn 52 points to combine with the track & field programs for a winter total of 169.5 points.

Western accumulated 180.0 points from the fall sport seasons.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has six teams within the top 20, paced by No. 2 Colorado School of Mines (632.5 pts.). Colorado Mesa University (465.5) is fifth, followed by No. 6 Adams State University (465.25), Western, Colorado State University Pueblo (17th, 347.5), and University of Colorado Colorado Springs (19th, 328.5).

Grand Valley State (Mich.) University, the leader after the fall, maintained its hold on No. 1, leading the country with 792.5 points.
