SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. Western Colorado will hit the road for one more time in the regular season taking on Westminster University Thursday, February 29 at 7 p.m., before taking on the nation's seventh best team in Colorado Mesa. The Mountaineers will tip-off against the Mavericks on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Mountaineers (10-16, 7-13 RMAC) are coming off a weekend split with a win against University of Colorado Colorado Springs and a loss to Regis. The Mountaineers dropped an 82-75 game Friday night (Feb. 23) to the Rangers where Tyler Halligan led with a game-high 20 points. In an overtime thriller, Western Colorado registered back-to-back-to-back three-pointers to secure the win. Halligan led the Mountaineers with 14 points against the Mountain Lions.
- Last time against the Griffins, the Mountaineers lost 79-76 as Halligan led the Mountaineers with 20-points, while Kade Juelfs and Christian Still also scored in double digits. Juelfs also had four steals against the Griffins. Against Colorado Mesa, Xavier Harris was the lone Mountaineer to score in double figures with 10 points, while Andrew Reichart registered 5 rebounds.
- Juelfs leads the Mountaineers scoring efforts averaging 13.2 points per game, while in conference play the junior has registered 13.9 points per game. Juelfs also holds a 47% field goal percentage and 43% shooting from 3-point range.
- Jamel Hollins leads the Mountaineers with 5.8 rebounds per game through 17 games this season while registering 7.4 points per game. Juelfs has been a well-rounded player for the Mountaineers this season, not only leading the team offensively, but registering 3.7 rebounds per game and leading the team with 22 steals.
WESTMINSTER HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The Griffins (8-19, 4-17 RMAC) hosted No. 7 Colorado Mesa Tuesday night and despite outscoring the Mavericks 54-53 in the second half, the Griffins fell 105-82. Trey Wood registered a team-high 25 points followed by Rylan O'Brien's 22 points. Wood also registered a game-high eight rebounds including five defensive boards.
- Last time against Western Colorado, Westminster's Pierce Sterling registered 30-points while going 11-for-15 from the field, 4-for-5 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the field. Wood led his team with 11 rebounds recording a double double with 24-points.
- The Griffins have four players averaging double-digit points per game, including Wood, who leads the quartet with 14.6 points per game. Chase Potter is averaging 13.1 points per game, while O'Brien has collected 12.1 points per game. Pierce rounds out the high scoring foursome with 10.0 points per game.
- Wood has registered a team-high 21 blocked shots and also leads the Griffins with 5.9 rebounds per game followed by 4.5 rebounds per game from Donaval Avil. Sterling leads his team in steals with 25 while collecting 2.7 rebounds per game.
COLORADO MESA HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats
- The No. 7 Mavericks cleared 100 points for the second time in five games as they tallied 105 points against the Griffins. Trevor Baskin led the team offensive with 31-points going 12-for-15 from the field. Michael McCurry and Christopher Speller also registered double digit point totals in the contest. Baskin also led the Mavs in rebounds with five.
- Last time the Mountaineers and Mavs played, Colorado Mesa won 67-45 after 14 points from both Aidan Kuhl and Mac Riniker. Baskin led with seven rebounds in the contest while scoring just 13 points. The Mavericks shot 50% from the field in the game, going 15-for-38 in the final 20 minutes.
- Baskin leads Colorado Mesa with 17.7 points per game and has the third highest single game scoring total in program history after scoring 43-points against Colorado State University Pueblo (Feb. 23). The redshirt junior holds 55% shooting from the field which is third on the team out of the Mavericks starters. Mac Riniker has registered 83% shooting from the field which leads Colorado Mesa while scoring 14.2 points per game.
- Defensively, Baskin leads the Mavericks too with 7.9 rebounds per game followed by Riniker's 5.2 rebounds per game. Riniker leads the Mavs with 45 steals and has registered 22 blocked shots. Baskin has recorded a team-high 31 blocked shots.
