AZUSA, Calif. Western Colorado had to wait to until the evening to step foot onto the track to compete. But, once they did the Mountaineers performed well against some stiff Division I competition, earning two provisional qualifying marks on day one.
NCAA PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS
- Against some stiff Division I competition, Albert Hesse and Michael Grabowski had solid outings in the men's 3,000m steeplechase as both athletes earned provisional qualifying times. Hesse was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line, crossing in a personal best time of 8:53.38. Grabowski followed Hesse coming in at a time of 8:59.06.
PERSONAL BEST TIME
- In the men's 3,000m steeplechase Kyle Partin emptied the tank, resulting in him earning a personal best time of 9:20.99.
MOUNTAINEER SPIRIT
- Patrick Jirele had a minor setback in the men's 3,000m steeplechase - falling down on the final lap. But, while many may have stopped and backed out of the race, Jirele toughed it out and crossed the finish line in a time of 9:41.20.
UP NEXT
Western Colorado will be on the track at 10 a.m. PST today (Apr. 14), as Partin will compete in the men's 5k.
