GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado wrapped up the regular season with another spectacular outing on Friday (Feb. 17) at the Western Colorado Alumni Open. There were eight provisional qualifying performances – one being a school record – and six performances that were good enough to earn a spot of the all-time list.
SCHOOL RECORD FALLS AGAIN
- For the third time this season, Ali Aldrich broke the school record in the women's shot put, this time with a provisional qualifying heave of 14.81m (48-feet, seven-and-a-quarter-inch). That mark earned her first-place in the event. Aldrich also came in first-place in the women's weight throw, with a provisional qualifying toss of 18.33m (60-01.75), which also is a third all-time mark.
NCAA PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS
- Logan Butterfield had a stellar performance in the men's weight throw, moving up to third all-time with a provisional qualifying toss of 18.29m (60-00.25).
- Earning a provisional time and cruising to a first-place finish in the women's 800m, Emma Kjellsen finished in a time of 2:13.04 (Converted from 2:16.51).
- Now tied for fourth all-time, Timothy Ellis earned a provisional qualifying mark in the men's pole vault, with a clearance of 5.00m (16-04.75). That mark also earned him first-place.
- The Mountaineers earned two provisional times in the men's mile, as Patrick Jirele came in second-place in a time of 4:08.75 (Converted from 4:23.46) and Aidan Scott came in third-place with a time of 4:09.71 (Converted from 4:24.47).
- Coming in second-place in the men's 3,000m, Will Johnson crossed the line in a provisional time of 8:18.61 (Converted from 8:50.95).
TOP-TEN ALL TIME MARK
- Tyler Nelson threw himself to seventh all-time in the men's weight throw, with a toss of 16.95m (55-07.50). That mark also earned him second-place in the event. Similar to Nelson, Karter Evans threw himself to tenth all-time in the weight throw with a mark of 16.38m (53-09.00)
PHOTO FINISH
- The women's 60m was a photo finish, as Myia Dantzler crossed the line in first-place in a time of 7.744 and right behind her in second-place was Jada Hynds who recorded a time of 7.749. That time for Hynds is a sixth all-time performance.
TOP-THREE FINISHES
- Taking the top-three spots in the women's 60m hurdles, Clara Tuti crossed the line first in a time of 9.26. Right on her heels was Reece Mercer in second-place (9.50) and Darby Downham in third-place (9.54).
- Similar to the women's 60m hurdles, Western took the top-two places in the women's pole vault. Lauren Smith cleared a height of 3.61m (11-10.00), earning her first-place and Laura Brignoli came in second-place with a clearance of 3.46m (11-04.25).
- In the men's 200m, DJ Allen Jr left his competition in his dust, crossing the finish line first, with a time of 22.60.
- Winning the men's high jump, Noah Mayfield cleared a height of 1.98m (6-06.00). A few spots down in third-place, Caden Church was able to clear a height of 1.90m (6-02.75).
- Temesgen Fanning earned a first-place finish in the men's triple jump by leaping to a distance of 13.16m (43-02.25).
- In the men's pole vault, Burke Ewing came in second-place, with a mark of 4.51m (14-09.50).
- Mikayla Hutchison in the 200m, came in second-place crossing the finish line in a time of 25.80.
- In the women's 5,000m, Emma Berg led the way for the Mountaineers coming in second-place (19:40.45) and was followed by Olivia Kaiser who came in third-place (20:01.40).
- Jumping to a second-place finish in the women's triple jump, Emerie Rios landed at a distance of 10.54m (34-07.00).
- Coming in second-place in the men's 3,000m, Kyle Partin came in at 8:52.13.
- In the men's 800m, Jeremy Killoy time of 1:57.57 was good enough to earn him third-place.
- Raquel Moore earned a third-place finish in the women's long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.14m (16-10.05).
- The third runner to cross the finish line in the men's 60m hurdles, was Jacob Stroup who came in at 8.26.
- In the women's weight throw, Chloe Brackenbury came in third-place with a toss of 15.09m (49-06.25).
- Eric Fike came in third-place in the men's 60m, coming in at 6.91.
- In the men's shot put, Karter Evans heave of 15.21m (49-11.00) was good enough to earn him third-place.

The Mountaineers will now start preparing for championship season, as they will compete in the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, which will start on Feb. 24 (Fri.) and conclude on Feb. 25 (Sat.)
