Mountaineers standout against Division I competition

SEATTLE, Wash. Going against Division I competition, Western Colorado did their thing and walked away with, not one, not two. But, six NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying marks – the Mountaineers only had six runners compete in the meet, each only running in one event.

NCAA PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS
  • In the women's 3,000m, Katie Doucette, Allison Beasley and Leah Taylor emptied the tank, as each athlete cruised to provisional qualifying times. Doucette crossed the line first out of the trio, with a time of 9:26.59, followed by Beasley (9:34.29) and right behind her was Taylor (9:39.19).
  • Beasley and Taylors time were also good enough to put them at fifth and sixth all-time.
  • Additionally, what the trio did was really impressive when factoring in that a provisional qualifying time for the women's 3,000m is 9:56.27. As of the morning of February 11th, those times are the fourth, tenth and 11th best times in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
  • Tyler Nord was just as impressive in the men's 3,000m, as he won his heat beating runners from Iowa State, Boise State, Cal Poly, Weber State, Southern Utah, California, Gonzaga, Washington State and Kentucky. Not only did he beat Division I competition, he also earned a provisional qualifying time of 8:08.78, which at the moment is the sixth best time in the RMAC and a seventh all-time performance. In the men's 3,000m a provisional qualifying time is 8:19.13.
  • Keeping up with the trend of the Mountaineers shining bright at the Husky Classic, Michael Grabowski and Jacob Hernandez earned Western's fifth and sixth provisional qualifying times of the meet in the men's 5,000m. Grabowski finished in a time of 14:17.16 and not too far behind was Hernandez who came in at 14:19.69. For right now, those times are the 11th and 12th best times in the RMAC and were both personal best times for both runners.
