GUNNISON, Colo.  Western Colorado heads out on the road still searching for their first conference win of the season. The Mountaineers will take on Colorado Christian at 6 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 7, before traveling to Chadron, Neb., to take on Chadron State in Chadron, Neb., for a 1 p.m. tip off.  

In their last match up, the Mountaineers lost to the Cougars on the road 68-56, while they have a three-game win streak against the Eagles.  

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats 

  • The Mountaineers (2-5, 0-2 RMAC) are coming off a pair of losses after facing Adams State and Fort Lewis to open conference play last weekend.  

  • Rachel Cockman ranks fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in points per game (17.3) after scoring 17 points over the weekend. The junior also ranks sixth in rebounds per game (8.8) in the conference, while also averaging 5.5 defensive rebounds per game.  

  • Jayda Maves has shined for the Mountaineers through the first seven games of her collegiate career. In the opening weekend of conference play, Maves averaged 15 points a game with a season-high 19 points against Adams State on Friday. She ranks 17th in the conference in points per game with 11.7.  

  • As a team, the Mountaineers are averaging 57 points per game, while going 36-percent shooting from the field. Defensively, the Mountaineers are averaging 36.5 rebounds per game and 29 defensive boards per game which ranks second in the conference in team defensive rebounds.  

COUGARS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats  

  • Colorado Christian (5-3, 1-1 RMAC) is coming off a 74-73 loss to New Mexico Highlands and a 78-67 win over CSU Pueblo. As a team, the Cougars have averaged 70.1 points per game while hitting 40% of their shots from the field and 33% of their shots from three-point range.  

  • Maggie Hutka leads the offensive efforts for the team with 17.5 points per game, while making 45% of her shots from the field. She has also been able to help the Cougars out defensively with 6.1 rebounds per game.  

  • Nicole Bowlin has registered a team-leading 15 steals to go along with 29 assists. Dasiya has recorded a team-high 64 rebounds including 41 defensive boards.  

EAGLES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats  

  • The Eagles (2-4,0-2 RMAC) dropped their opening conference match ups to the ThunderWolves and the Cowgirls.  

  • Ashayla Powers leads the Eagles offensive charge with 11.8 points per game, while as a team Chadron State records 64.5 points per game. Powers holds a 54-shooting from the field average while making 75% of her shots from the free throw line. Powers also leads Chadron State in rebounds with six per game and 36 total rebounds.  

  • Kyra Tanabe and Kadyn Comer have tallied 10 steals each, while Awoti Akoi has recorded ten blocks and 20 rebounds.  

UP NEXT 

The Mountaineers will host Colorado School of Mines for their final conference contest of the calendar year on Saturday Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. They will then travel to Utah State University on Dec. 18 for an exhibition game.
