DENVER The Western Colorado volleyball team will conclude its 2023 season with a trip to the Front Range, taking on eighth-ranked Metropolitan State University Denver and Colorado School of Mines in a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches over the weekend.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Mountaineers, at 5-19 overall and 2-10 in league play, have surpassed the win total (4) from the previous season.
- Maggie Olson and Seyun Park have consistently led the attack all season. Olson leads the team with 264 kills and Park is close behind with 242. Olson's 3.18 kills per set ranks ninth in the RMAC, and Park's .316 attacking percentage ranks 10th.
- Olson, a sophomore, played a total of 15 sets during her freshman campaign and accumulated 21 kills. Earning a starting and full-rotation role this season, Olson has become an integral part of the program's advancement.
- A departing fifth-season senior, Elizabeth Rupprecht has been the team leader defensively with 311 digs. Her rate of 3.62/set is eighth in the league, and over her five seasons with the Mountaineers she has accumulated 1,290 digs in 413 sets for a rate of 3.12/set.
- Nur Turkmenoglu transferred into the program in January 2023 and has stepped into a team leadership role, setting up the attack and leading the team in assists with a total of 769 and an average of 8.84/set, which ranks seventh among the league's setters.
- Turkmenoglu also ranks ninth in the RMAC in service aces at 0.38/set (33 total).
MSU DENVER HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The eighth-ranked Roadrunners are 19-5 overall and sit atop the league standings with an 11-1 conference mark. They enter Friday's match with Western on a four-match win streak, and have an all-time record of 12-0 against the Mountaineers.
- Their total of 229.0 blocks are the most in the league, and the Roadrunners' average of 2.63/set is second in the category.
- Ember Canty is the team leader at the net, her average of 1.28 blocks/set ranking second in the conference. She has a total of 109 blocks (18 BS, 91 BA) that are the most in the conference. Mikayla McClinton's 0.95/set ranks seventh in the conference, and Maddy Williams' 0.93/set ranks ninth.
- Riley Anderson is the MSU Denver attack leader with 316 on the year. She averages 3.76/set, a figure that sits seventh in the category within the conference.
- Abbie McCrimmon's 3.91 digs/set (340 total) is seventh in the RMAC, and while she shares the setter's duties with Delaney Eckhardt, it is Amela Oershala that ranks amongst the league leaders at 5.48 assists/set.
COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Orediggers are 12-12 overall and 5-7 in the league, and are coming off a heartbreaking loss to MSU Denver, which recorded a reverse sweep in a 3-2 Roadrunner victory Wednesday night.
- Mines is 19-2 all time against Western and has won the past 11 matches against the Mountaineers who last defeated the Orediggers (3-1) in 2015.
- Two players, Rose Stuewe and Madison Glassco, have eclipsed 200 kills this season. Stuewe (299) is 10th in the RMAC at 3.14/set, while Glassco has 227 on the year at a rate of 2.52/set.
- The CSM attack is set up by Presley Powell who is approaching 1,000 set assists for the season. She enters the Friday match against visiting Fort Lewis College and the Western match Saturday with 968 assists, and her average of 10.76/set is second best in the RMAC.
- The defensive leaders for the Orediggers are Morgan McChesney at the net with 44 blocks (7 BS, 37 BA) and Jada Price behind the blocks with 321 digs and an average of 3.57/set (ninth in the RMAC).
