Mountaineers Fall to Cougars

LAKEWOOD, COLO.,   Western Colorado Volleyball drops final game of the season to Colorado Christian.

JUST THE FACTS
Final Score: CCU defeats Western Colorado 3-0
Records: Western Colorado overall 1-24 (0-14 RMAC) | CCU 12-14 overall (7-7 RMAC)
Location: Lakewood, Colo CCU Event Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
Western opened the match aggressively, taking an early 3–2 lead after a pair of CCU attack errors. The set stayed tight through 11–11, highlighted by blocks from Kyra Kidd and Emily Robins and a service ace from Kaira Willits. Western continued to battle, pulling within 21–23 after kills from Olive Rolseth and Anuhea Kaalele, but CCU's frontline—led by Renee Phillips—closed the frame with a pair of late kills.

CCU gained control early behind a run of service pressure, jumping out to a 7–1 lead. Western found a spark midway through the set with kills from Kidd, Kaalele, and Robins, along with a Rolseth service ace that cut the deficit to 8–5. Despite the push, CCU's blocking presence (seven blocks in the set) slowed Western's offense, and the Cougars pulled away to take a 2–0 match lead.

The Mountaineers again kept things close early, trailing just 6–2 after a Rolseth kill and an ace from Galatia Andrew. Western continued to produce at the net—Kidd, Rolseth, and Kaalele each contributed kills—but CCU's consistent attacking and another strong serving stretch widened the gap to 20–14. Despite late efforts from Rolseth and Kidd, CCU closed out the match with a final 5–1 run.
