GUNNISON, Colo.  Western Colorado women's soccer team will hit the road for their first two games of the season, traveling to Durango, Colo., to take on Lubbock Christian (Aug. 25) at 5 p.m. and Chaminade (Aug. 27) at 11 a.m.

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
  • During the 2021 season, Western Colorado finished with a 5-11-1 overall record, 2-9-1 in conference – leading to them finishing in tenth-place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
  • Heading into this season, the Mountaineers have a fairly young team. However, have seen great promise from freshman in scrimmages and practice. There is a good chance this team will look completely different when they take the field, as their attack has potential to be stronger than before.
  • There is a big whole to fill with the departure of goalkeeper Kaeyla Noble - who graduated. But, new freshman goalkeepers Alex Peralta and Aubree Orosco have been battling it out for the starting job.
  • Additionally, while this team is young they have had great leadership from the returners who have stepped up in a big way.
LADY CHAPS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
  • Lubbock Christian finished the 2021 season with an 8-7-2 overall record, 5-7-1 in conference – which led to them finishing tenth in the overall Lone Star soccer standings.
  • Very similar to their placement in the standings, the Lady Chaps had the tenth best offense scoring 19 goals, while giving up 17 goals (fourth best).
  • The Lady Chaps return Madison Mayben who was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Conference Third Team during the 2021 season. Mayben helped lead the Lady Chap defense to a goals against average of 1.00, the fourth-best mark in the conference, and to six shutouts in 17 games last season.
SILVERSWORDS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
  • Last season, Chaminade finished with a 7-7 overall record, 5-5 in conference – which resulted in them finishing in sixth-place in the overall PacWest soccer standings.
  • They scored 13 goals during the 2021 season, while giving up 12 goals.
  • The Silverswords return Hoku Schatz who was named to the All-Pacific West Conference Third Team during the 2021 season. Schatz started all 13 matches for the Silverswords in 2021, logging 1,147 minutes, the second-most by any Chaminade field player.
ON THE FIELD NEXT
The Mountaineers will be on the road again, on Friday, September 2, taking on California State University, Dominguez Hills at 4 p.m. Following the conclusion of that game they will play the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Sunday, September 4 at 11 a.m.
