PITTSBURG, Kan. Western Colorado
Katie Doucette added another trophy to her All-American trophy case on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Doucette was sitting in sixth-place for the majority of the women's 3,000-meter final -- dropping to eighth-place briefly at the 1,200m mark of the race -- but stayed focus and moved up to fifth-place with only 300m left. That is when Doucette kicked it into full gear and gave it everything she had, narrowly coming in second place (9 minutes, 20.85 seconds) ahead of Adams State University's Brianna Robles, who crossed the finish line in third, with a time of 9:20.92.
On the opening night of the two-day championship meet, Doucette earned her first All-American certificate, coming in fourth place in the women's 5,000m with a time of 16:08.73 -- shattering the old record of 16:15.00, which was set in 2012 by Lauren Kleppin.
