Mountaineers off to strong start

GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado started things off strong note in the heptathlon as they had two athletes – Nick Apps and Aidan Grant – earn multiple top-three finishes on day one of the Mountaineer Open and Multi.
 
MOUNTAINEER OPEN AND MULTI HIGHLIGHTS DAY ONE
  • Apps and Grant had a solid start to their first meet of the year, both concluding day one of the heptathlon with several top-five finishes in the events they competed in.
  • In the 60m dash, Apps came in third with a time of 7.32-seconds and Grant was right behind in fifth crossing the finish line in 7.51 seconds.
  • In the long jump, Apps was right in front of Grant coming in second with a mark of 6.09m (19-11.75). In third, Grant recorded a mark of 5.94m (19-06.00).
  • Things changed slightly for the duo when it came to shot put, Grant finishing in third with a mark of 9.94m (32-07.50), while Apps finished in sixth (9.51m, 31-02.50).
  • In the final event, high jump, Grant cleared a height of 1.92m (6-03.50) which earned him second and Apps cleared a height of (5-06), earning him sixth.
  • The pair will wrap up the heptathlon tomorrow (Dec. 10), competing in the 60m hurdles (10:30 a.m.), pole vault (11:15 a.m.) and the 1,000m (12:55 p.m.)

The Mountaineers will be back at it tomorrow (Dec. 10), kicking off day two of the Mountaineer Open and Multi starting at 10:30 a.m.
