GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will look to snap their four-game losing streak and pick up their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) win this season, when they take on Chadron State (Dec. 9) and Colorado Christian University (Dec. 10).
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • The season hasn't started the way Western wanted it to, currently having a 1-6 overall record, 0-2 in RMAC competition. In the Mountaineers last two games against Adams State and Fort Lewis, they lost 61-81 and 57-64. Hayley Valencia took over the scoring load against the Grizzlies scoring a career high 18-points. Against the Skyhawks, Rachel Cockman was the leading scorer dropping a career high 21-points.
  • In seven games, Cockman and Emmery Wagstaff are the leading scorers, averaging 14.9 and 14.4-points Per Game (PG). Cockman leads the team in field goal percentage making 50 percent, while Kylie Krise is the best three-point shooter – min. 10 attempts - making 42.9 percent. At the free throw line Wagstaff leads the way making 87.5 percent.
  • On defense, Cockman leads the way grabbing 7.6 rebounds PG and also has the most blocks with nine so far this season.  Wagstaff has also made her presence felt on the defensive end recording 11 steals.
  • As a whole, Western averages 51.6-points PG; shooting 35.3 percent from the field, 27.1 percent from three and 66.3 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 19.1-times PG and allow 17.4-points off turnovers. Teams average 60.9-points against them.
EAGLES HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Similar to the Mountaineers, Chadron State season isn't going too well so far currently having a 1-7 overall record, 1-1 in RMAC competition. In their last two games against CSU Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands, the Eagles lost to the Thunderwolves 66-75. But, picked up an 89-59 win over the Cowgirls. Ashayla Powers was the leading scorer against CSU Pueblo scoring 25-points. Against New Mexico Highlands, Kyra Tanabe led the team scoring 19-points.
  • So far this season Powers has been the go to scorer for Chadron State scoring 17.4-points PG. She also is the best field goal and free throw percentage shooter – min. 10 attempts – shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 72.5 percent from the free throw line. From beyond the arc, Kyra Tanabe is the best shooter making 34.8 percent.
  • Leading the way in rebounds is Powers, who grabs 6.5 boards PG. Samiyah Worrell, Kadyn Comer and Tanabe both made it tough on ballhandlers each recording eight steals. Awoti Akoi can protect the paint with the best of them sending seven shots back.
  • As a whole, the Eagles average 60.9-points PG, shooting; 37.6 percent from the field, 25.2 percent from three and 67.8 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 17.5-times PG and allow 19-points off turnovers. Teams average 75.1-points against them.
COUGARS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • ­­Things have gone slightly better for Colorado Christian season, posting a 5-3 overall record, 1-1 in RMAC competition. Identical to the Eagles, the Cougars split their first two games of RMAC competition losing 66-74 to New Mexico Highlands and defeating CSU Pueblo 76-71. Agnes Paul was the top scorer against the Cowgirls scoring 15-points. While Dasiya Jones was the leading scorer against the Thunderwolves scoring 19-points.
  • Regan LoConte (10.5-points PG), Jones (10-points PG) and Paul (9.9-points PG) are the leading scorers for Colorado Christian this each scoring or nearly scoring in double figures. India Cole is the best shooter from the field making 55.6 percent and Mykaela Moore is the best three-point shooter making 45.5 percent. From the free throw line, Makenna Bodette leads the team making 73.3 percent.
  • On the defensive side, Paul is the leading rebounder for the Cougars snatching 9.5 rebounds PG. Moore and Cole are known to make an impact when it comes to defending ball handers both having 11 steals.  When it comes to blocking shots, Bodette is the best on the team recording six blocks this season.
  • As a whole, Colorado Christian averages 74.6-points PG, shooting; 41.4 percent from the field, 31.2 percent from three and 62.7 percent from the free throw line. They turn the ball over 16.9-times PG and allow 16-points off turnovers. Teams average 71.4-points against them.
