GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will wrap 2022 up at home, taking on University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31.
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS | RMAC STATS | RMAC STANDINGS
  • Western is coming off a tough 69-80 loss to No. 18 Colorado School of Mines (Dec. 18), which resulted in them dropping to 2-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) standings. Currently the Mountaineers are in 10th place - two spots out of qualifying for the RMAC tournament.
  • When it comes to offense, Western has the 13th ranked offense in the RMAC averaging 59-points game. The Mountaineers are led by Rachel Cockman who has been averaging 14.2-points (eighth in RMAC) in RMAC contest. Emmery Wagstaff also cracked the top-25 in scoring, coming in at 23rd scoring 11.2-points in RMAC games.
  • Cockman is one of the more efficient scorers in the RMAC shooting 55.1 percent (fourth in RMAC) from the field. True freshman Kylie Krise has shown one better not leave her open from beyond the arc, knocking down an RMAC best 52.4 percent from three. From the free throw line, Hayley Valencia leads the Mountaineers shooting 73.9 percent (ninth in RMAC) and is followed by Cockman and Brooklyn Seymour who both shoot 66.7 percent (tied for 13th in RMAC).
  • On the defensive end, Western is one of the best when it comes to slowing down opponents only giving up 63.6-points (fifth in RMAC). Valencia leads the way for the Mountaineers when it comes to grabbing rebounds, snatching 7.2 boards (tied for eighth in RMAC). Cockman also is a factor on that end blocking 1.2 shots (fifth in RMAC).
MOUNTAIN LIONS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • UCCS will attempt to get on a two-game winning streak, after defeating Colorado Christian 72-64 (Dec. 16). With the win the Mountain Lions improved to 2-3 in RMAC standings, which puts them in 11th place.
  • Similar to where UCCS sits in the standings, the Mountain Lions have the 11th ranked offense scoring 60.2-points in RMAC contest. Shouldering the scoring load, Amyah Moore Allen has averaged 17.8-points in RMAC games, which is 3rd in the RMAC. Also, a factor on the offensive end, Maison White scores 12.7-points.
  • White leads the Mountain Lions in field goal percentage shooting 52.1 percent (seventh in RMAC) and is followed by Allen who shoots 45.1 percent (ninth in RMAC). At the free throw line, Allen leads UCCS knocking down 72.5 percent (11th in RMAC).
  • Defensively, the Mountain Lions have the sixth best defense in the RMAC giving up 64-points. White is the best rebounder in the RMAC grabbing 10 rebounds in RMAC contest. Making it tough on ball handlers Gracie Haneborg leads UCCS in steals, recording 1.8 steals (10th in RMAC). A few spots down in 14th, White steals the ball 1.3 times.
