LAREDO / KINGSVILLE, Texas Western Colorado will kick their season off in Texas, playing Texas A&M International University (Nov. 18) and Texas A&M University – Kingsville (Nov. 19) at 6 and 5 PM.
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
  • Western Colorado will look to start their season off with a win, playing their first official games played two exhibition games against Utah Valley and Weber State - of the season this weekend when they take on the Dustdevils and Javelinas.
  • Returning for the Mountaineers, Avery Rembao was the leading scorer for the Western averaging 11.9-points per game, shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 23.9 percent from three and 78 percent from the free throw. Jaelan McCloud was their best three-point shooter making 40.2 percent of his shots.
  • Rembao also was up there in terms of rebounds, snatching 105 rebounds. As a whole Western scored 74.4 points per game, shot 42.8 percent from the field, 33.4 percent from three and 71.3 percent from the free throw line.
DUSTDEVILS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Texas A&M International is currently undefeated, defeating Chadron State (71-66) and South Dakota Mines (81-57).
  • Gregg Bowie II, Shea Rax, and Jermaine Drewey are their leading scorers so far this season, Bowie II and Rax each averaging 11-points, while Drewey averages 10-points. Rax and Drewey are their leading their team in terms of field goal percentage, both shooting 53.3 percent from the field. Rax is also their best three-point shooter, shooting 60-percent from three.
  • On the defensive side, Mike Rivera is their best defender having three steals and four blocks this season. Bowie II is tied with Rivera in steals having three of his own. Leading their team in rebounds is John Achebe and Tiras Morton who have 13 and 12 rebounds apiece. As a whole they average 76-points per game, shoot; 48.7 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from three and 63.4 percent from the free throw line.
JAVELINAS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Kingsville enters their game against the Mountaineers on a two-game winning streak, defeating South Dakota Mines (75-42) and Chadron State (82-76).
  • They have four players, Isaiah Payne (15-points), C.J. Smith 14-points), Creighton Avery (13-points) and Kavon Booker (10.5-points) who are averaging double digits when it comes to scoring. Payne is their most efficient scorer, making 55.6 percent of his shots, while also leading the team from the three-point line making 37.5 percent.
  • On defense, Dillon Gooding is their best defender having five steals. The leading rebounder for the Javelinas is Avery and Will Chayer who both have 11 total rebounds.
