Mountaineer alum Konieczek to represent Poland at 2021 Olympics

POLAND --- Western Colorado cross country and track and field alum Alicja Konieczek continues her post collegiate running career, as she is set to race at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics for her home country of Poland in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
The first round of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Olympic Stadium.
 
At the Polish Athletics Championships (Poland Olympic Trails), Konieczek ran a personal best of 9 minutes and 27.79 seconds in the event to make the Olympic Team, finishing second overall just behind her sister Aneta Konieczek (9:25.98 PR). Aneta also ran for the Mountaineers for three semesters where she was a five-time All-American before transferring to the University of Oregon.
 
During her five years at Western Colorado University, Alicja Konieczek was a nine-time national champion and 15-time All-American. Becoming one of the most decorated Mountaineers of all-time. She previously held the NCAA Division II record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her collegiate best time of 9:47.72.
 
Since graduation in spring of 2019, Alicja has continued to train and compete at the highest level. She is currently an athlete for On Running, along with online coaching for Chaski Endurance Collective. Alicja's biggest post collegiate victory came at the World University Games as she won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, she also placed fifth at the European Team Championships, finished No. 28 at the IAAF World Championships and No. 17 at the European Championships.
 
Alicja will now represent her home country of Poland in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
