COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado will look to continue their great start to the season on Friday, Dec. 3 when they travel to USAF Academy to take on the Air Force Falcons.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
- Western has looked strong to start the season, picking up a 34-8 win in their season opener against San Francisco State and then placed five wrestlers at the Younes Open.
- Dean Noble (141 pounds) and Jason Hanenberg (149 pounds) are off to an impressive start, as both wrestlers have yet to lose a match this season. Noble and Hanenberg placed first at the Younes Open and each won their match against San Francisco State.
- Cody Fatzinger (125 pounds) and Hunter Mullin (165 pounds) have been equally as impressive, both only losing one match, which came in the first-place match at the Younes Open. Fatzinger and Mullin placed second at the Younes Open and won their fist match of the season against the Gators.
- Patrick Allis (133 pounds) who is ranked fifth on the Intermat rankings, will look to continue his solid start to the season after placing fourth at the Younes Open and earning a 16-2 major decision in his first match.
- Mullin (10th), Noble (13th), and Fatzinger (15th) are also ranked on Intermat in their respective weight classes.
FALCONS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
- Air Force had a tough opponent for their first dual meet of the season on Friday, Nov. 19, which resulted in them losing 39-3 to No. 4 Missouri.
- Jared Van Vleet (133 pound) and Wyatt Hendrickson (Heavy weight) are the top wrestlers for the Falcons. Van Vleet is ranked 28th, while Hendrickson is ranked ninth on Intermat rankings.
- Air Force started the season with the Citadel Open (Nov. 6) and Appalachian State Invite (Nov. 14), where they placed 12 wrestlers at the Citadel Open and 10 wrestlers at the Appalachian State Invite. Van Fleet and Sidney Flores (133 pound) led the way at the Citadel Open each earning co-champion finishes.
ON THE MAT NEXT
The Mountaineers will be back on the mat on Thursday, Dec. 9, traveling to Grand Junction to take on Colorado Mesa University at 6 p.m.
