GUNNISON, Colo.  Western Colorado proved on Saturday (Dec. 11) when they defeated Metro State 78-64 that they are a dangerous team, and head into the weekend looking to build on that success when they take on Colorado School of Mines (Dec. 17) and Regis (Dec. 18).
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Western is riding a two-game win streak, after defeating Fort Lewis (Dec. 7) 59-56 and Metro State (Dec. 11) 82-72.
  • In those games the Mountaineers did a good job taking care of the basketball (turning it over 10 & 11 times) and shot pretty well, making 40% against the Skyhawks and 52.9% against the Roadrunners.
  • Katie Dalton has gotten hot in the last two games, averaging 15.5-points per game, and has had help from Samantha Coleman, Grace Kirscher and Emmery Wagstaff.
  • Coleman has averaged 11-points during the two-game win streak, while Kirscher has averaged 10.5-points and Wagstaff has averaged 10-points.
  • Currently, Western is tied for sixth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Standings.
OREDIGGERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Colorado School of Mines has had a great start to their season, and has won their last five games they played. Their lone loss of the season came on Saturday, Nov. 20, against Nebraska-Kearney where they fell 76-57.
  • Since RMAC conference play has started, Courtney Stanton has been the leading scorer, averaging 12.6 points per game, followed by Ashley Steffeck with 12, Megan Van De Graff with 11.3 and Sammy Van Sickle with 10.3.
  • So far this season, Colorado School of Mines averages 71.2 points per game, shooting 38.7% from the field, 27% from three and 68.4% from the free throw line.
  • Colorado School of Mines is tied for second in the RMAC standings with CSU Pueblo. Both teams are currently 3-0 in conference play
RANGERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Similar to Western, Regis is on a two-game win streak after defeating South Dakota Mines (Dec. 4) 75-69 and New Mexico Highlands (Dec. 11) 76-42.
  • Tashika Burrell and Josey Ryan have been the leading scorers for the Rangers since RMAC play has started, averaging 13.3 and 11.6 points per game. Erin Stroberg and Megan Pohs are the next highest scorers each averaging 8.6.
  • Regis averages 68.7 points per game, shooting 41.5% from the field, 34.6% from three and 66.5% from the free throw line.
  • Regis is currently fifth in RMAC standings, with their lone loss coming against Colorado School of Mines (78-70) on Tuesday Nov. 30.
