GUNNISON, Colo.  The Western Colorado women's basketball team will host the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in the Mountaineers' home opener Wednesday, November 17, at 6 p.m. in the Paul Wright Gym.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THIS WEEKÂ |Â SEASON STATS
- The Mountaineers have started the season 1-1, and are looking for a second straight victory in their first game of the school year in the Paul Wright Gym.
- Western Colorado heads into the game against the Skyhawks after a loss and a win in the Texas Women's University Tournament.
- Their first taste of victory came against Angelo State University in the Mountaineers' second game in Texas. The Rams put up a good game and the teams were fairly close throughout the night, but in the end, Western Colorado pulled through.
- The Mountaineers took an early lead, ending the first quarter leading 22-12. Maintaining that lead, they finished the third quarter leading 47-36, then fended off a fourth-quarter ASU rally.
- Leading the team and scoring double digits were Samantha Coleman and Katie Dalton, with 17 and 13 points apiece.
- Coleman would be named to the TWU Tournament Challenge all-tournament squad.
FORT LEWIS HEADING INTO THIS WEEKÂ |Â SEASON STATS
- The Skyhawks head into Wednesday's game with two losses this past weekend, falling to both Eastern New Mexico University and Western New Mexico University at the Conference Challenge Event in Silver City, N.M.
- Fort Lewis lost to Eastern N.M. By 25 points, and Western N.M. by 18 points.
- Sydney Cadelaria hit for 17 points in both defeats for the Skyhawks, and also pulled down a combined nine rebounds.
- Chipping in for the Fort Lewis offense was Kelsey Sorenson, who also reached double digits, 10 and 17, in the pair of losses. Sorenson's 17-point game against Western N.M. also included 11 rebounds for a double-double night.
ON THE COURT NEXT
Following Wednesday's game, the Mountaineers will travel to Canyon, Texas, to take on Southern Oklahoma State at the West Texas A&M Tournament. The game will take place at the First United Bank Center on Friday Nov. 26.
