GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado volleyball on Tuesday evening makes its second consecutive trip into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason, squaring off in the 2021 tournament against host Colorado School of Mines.
The Mountaineers qualified for the Spring 2021 RMAC tournament, where Mines put an end to the Western season with a 3-0 victory.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE MATCH | 2021 STATS
- Western heads into Tuesday's match with Kat Finnerty and Jordyn Todd vying for team honors in leading the attack. Finnerty boasts an accumulated total of 226 kills through 26 matches, with Todd just one behind. Not far behind that duo is Emily Mangone with 197 kills.
- Setting up the attack are Alex Galicia and Hailee Martinez, who combine for 11.24 set assists per game, fifth most in the league.
- With an average of 1.11 blocks per set, Finnerty is the RMAC defensive leader at the net totaling 31 solo blocks and 67 block assists over 88 sets.
- Behind the blocks its Elizabeth Rupprecht that paces the rest of the conference in digs at 4.73 per set (416 total in 88 sets).
- Western's 13 wins this season are one shy of the most in the last decade: 14 wins in the 2016 campaign.
COLORADO MINES HEADING INTO THE MATCH | 2021 STATS
- Colorado Mines — ranked No. 10 in the country (AVCA) — is riding a six-match win streak heading into the postseason. The Orediggers won each of those six matches without surrendering a single set.
- Taylor Hicken, with 301 kills, leads the Mines attack, averaging 3.34 kills per set which is sixth in the individual attack rankings in the league. Her hitting percentage (.440) tops the individual rankings in that category.
- Teammate Amanda Donais is second in the conference with a .372 success rate on the attack, and her 2.89 K/Set are 10th-best.
- With two players near the top of the attack rankings, it's no surprise setter Drew Stokes is the RMAC leader in set assists. Her 11.92 assists per set lead the league, as does also her set assist total of 1,073.
- Ranked 16th nationally at the time, Mines won the regular-season RMAC match between the Orediggers and the visiting Mountaineers, 3-1, in mid-October.
