GUNNISON, Colo. --- The No. 23 Western Colorado wrestling team after dropping their first dual to D-I Air Force won their final three duals to have a strong showing at the 30th Annual Tracy Borah Duals on Saturday at the Mountaineer Field House.
 
The Mountaineers defeated Fort Hays State 25-18, Indianapolis 30-17 and Findlay 39-9 to move to 6-4 on the season – including 5-1 at home.
 
WCU 25, Fort Hays State 18
The Mountaineers used a pair of pins and an injury win to catapult themselves to a 25-18 win over Fort Hays State.
 
Third-ranked Patrick Allis made quick work of his opponent as he won via fall in 1:14 to open the scoring for the Mountaineers. After falling behind 12-6, a win via injury for Cole Mortensen at 157 followed by a major decision win for Michael Thelen and a 6-1 victory for Jimmy LaConte gave WCU a 19-12 lead.
 
While the Mountaineers dropped two of the next three matches, Espen Weber stepped up in weight class and picked up a fall at 197 in the second period to close out the victory.
 
WCU 30, Indianapolis 17
Jason Hanenberg, LaConte and Sammy deSeriere each picked up falls as the Mountaineers defeated Indianapolis 30-17.
 
deSeriere had the quickest fall of the day in his match as he needed just 21 seconds to defeat Jeremy Splix at 285. Hanenberg at 141 pinned Indy's Matt McKinney in the third period while LaConte pinned Gleason Mappes with 13 seconds left in the first period.
 
Also picking up wins for WCU was Cody Fatzinger at 133 (4-3 decision) and Giovanni Cassioppi at 149 (6-0).
 
WCU 39, Findlay 9
The Mountaineers won the first six matches and went on to a 39-9 victory over Findlay.
 
Mortensen (157 – fall 4:01), Thelen (165 – fall 4:27) and deSeriere (285 – fall 1:44) all picked up wins via pin while Allis won via tech fall 19-3 to pick up five points for the Mountaineers, Ruger Wyneken picked up a major decision victory (8-0) at 184 while Hanenberg (6-4) at 141 and Cassioppi (2-1) at 149 each picked up wins. WCU also picked up points for a forfeit at 133 pounds.
 
Air Force 49, WCU 0
The Mountaineers fell to Division-I Air Force 49-0 with much of WCU's main lineup not wrestling in the dual with WCU forfeiting the final three weight classes.
