GUNNISON, Colo. – This weekend, Western Colorado University Men's Basketball have the first two of a four-game road trip. The Mountaineers first travel to Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday and New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday.
Friday's game against the Thunderwolves begins at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's game against the Cowboys begins at 7 p.m.
The game against CSU-Pueblo will mark the midway point of the season for Western (3-10, 0-7 RMAC). The Mountaineers will be trying to right the ship following a tough December.
Western is tied for 15
th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, and ranks seventh in scoring, averaging 78.4 points per game.
Leading the Mountaineers' scoring effort is
Quincy Harding. Harding is averaging 19.6 points per game, which is third best in the conference.
Brady Subart is averaging 13.8 points per game and his 46.5 percent (33-of-71) three-point field goal percentage ranks best in the RMAC.
Friday will be the 94
th game played between Western and CSU-Pueblo (4-9, 2-5 RMAC). The Thunderwolves lead the all-time series, 68-25.
Last season, the Mountaineers defeated CSU-Pueblo 91-88 on the road in the final game of the regular season to make the RMAC Tournament.
The Thunderwolves have won two of their last three games but fell to Regis University 84-53 in their last outing.
CSU-Pueblo is tied for 12
th in the conference standings.
Donovan Oldham leads CSU-Pueblo with 15.5 points per game. Teammate Jason Anderson leads the conference and ranks 13
th nationally in field goal percentage, making 62.9 percent (56-of-89) of his shots on average.
Saturday, the Mountaineers travel into New Mexico for the 105
th game against NMHU (10-3, 5-2 RMAC). The Cowboys have won 58 of those games, compared to the 46 by Western.
The two teams split last season's two-game series, each team winning on the road.
NMHU has won three of their last four, most recently defeating Colorado Christian University 86-80.
The Cowboys are tied for third in the conference standings and have two of the conference's top four scorers.
Gerad Davis is the RMAC's second leading scorer at 21.3 points per game, while teammate Raquan Mitchell is fourth in the conference, averaging 18.5 points per game.
Davis and Mitchell help lead the Cowboys offense, ranked first in scoring at 88.7 points per game.
