WREST | Mountaineers trounce Eagles with 34-12 win

CHADRON, Neb. – Six bonus-point bout victories was enough for Western Colorado University on the road against Chadron State College on Friday night. The Mountaineers cruised to a 34-12 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over the Eagles.

Western (9-3, 3-1 RMAC), ranked 19th in Division II, earned three wins by fall, two wins by technical fall and one forfeit against CSC (3-6, 2-5 RMAC).

Earning the first fall of the night for the Mountaineers was 141-pounder Jason Hanenberg. After falling behind in the first period 3-2, Hanenberg began the second period on top of the Eagles' Brock Thumm. It took Hanenberg 36 seconds in the second period to earn the pin and put the Mountaineers ahead 12-3.

Much like Hanenberg's match, Western's Jason Slaughter fell behind 2-0 against Jake Otuafi at 157 pounds. Slaughter then started the second period on top and after an Otuafi escape, Slaughter earned his first takedown of the match and put Otuafi to his back. Slaughter earned a fall at the 4:43 mark of the second period.

Slaughter's win was the first of four straight bout wins by the Mountaineers in Friday night's dual.

Brandon Supernaw, ranked first at 174 pounds, continued his dominant season on Friday. Supernaw earned seven takedowns against Mat Hebel before finishing with a fall in the third period. Supernaw improves his season record to 11-0.
