MBB | Mountaineers on the road to face rivals FLC and ASU

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University men's basketball ends a four-game road trip this weekend at Fort Lewis College and Adams State University. The Mountaineers face Fort Lewis on Friday and Adams State on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
 
Western (3-12, 0-9 RMAC) enters the weekend 16th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings. The Mountaineers lost on the road to New Mexico Highlands University 94-83 in their last outing.
 
The Mountaineers have made 146 three-point field goals this season, averaging 9.7 per game. Both figures rank second best in the conference.
 
Western's rebounding ranks best in the conference as the Mountaineers are pulling down 37.2 rebounds per game. On the offensive glass, Wester has recorded 170 rebounds this season, averaging 11.3 per game, which is second best in the RMAC.
 
The Mountaineers' Brady Subart and Cole Sienknecht are taking care of the offensive duties for Western. Subart is averaging 13.4 points per game, while Sienknecht is averaging 12 points.
 
Subart is also the team leader in assists and ranks first in the conference for three-point field goal percentage at 46.8 percent. Nationally, Subart's three-point field goal percentage is 18th best.
 
Jackson Ehrlin paces the Mountaineers in rebounds and blocks. Ehrlin has recorded 100 rebounds and six blocks this season.
 
FLC (7-8, 2-7 RMAC) enters the weekend having lost their last two and sit 14th in the RMAC standings. The Skyhawks are 4-4 at home this season.
 
Friday will be the 121st game played between the two programs. FLC leads the all-time series 78-42. The last Mountaineer win over the Skyhawks came on Feb. 27, 2015 in Gunnison, 89-85. The last Western win in Durango came on Feb. 6, 2009 with the Mountaineers winning by 10 points, 70-60.
 
The Skyhawks have the second best turnover margin in the conference at 2.73. FLC is also second best in the conference when it comes to defending the three-point shot. Opponents are shooting 32.6 percent on average from beyond the three-point line against the Skyhawks.
 
Marquel Beasley is leading FLC in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game, which ranks seventh best in the conference.
 
Otas Iyekekpolor leads the Skyhawks in blocks with 23, which ties for second best in the conference. Iyekekpolor's 1.5 blocks per game is tied for third best in the RMAC.
 
ASU (4-10, 4-5 RMAC) enters the weekend having lost two straight. The Grizzlies are in a four-way tie for eighth place in the conference standings. Adams is 2-5 at home this season and host Colorado Mesa University on Friday.
 
The Grizzlies are the best free throw shooting team in the conference, averaging 76.5 percent from the charity stripe.
 
John Dewey is ASU's leading scorer. Dewey also has the RMAC's sixth highest scoring average at 17.9 points per game.
 
Davere Creighton has brought down more rebounds than any other RMAC player this season. Creighton has recorded 122 rebounds for Adams State and is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game.
