GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Basketball has hit the midway point of the season. After 13 games, with 13 more still to play, the Mountaineers have 10 wins. On the road, Western is 4-0. The Mountaineers will look to add to their unblemished road record this weekend at Fort Lewis College and Adams State University.

Both games on the road are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from Durango, Colorado and Alamosa, Colorado.

Western (10-3, 6-3 RMAC) is off to its best start in 32 years. Only three other times has Western won 10 of the first 13 games, with the most recent during the 1986-87 season.

The Mountaineers are perfect on the road with four wins and no losses so far this season. This weekend's games will be the final two of a four game road trip.

Entering the weekend, Western has won seven of their last eight games, including three straight.

Western is tied for third in the conference standings with Colorado State University - Pueblo, chasing Westminster College and Colorado Mesa University.

A large key to the Mountaineers' success this season has been due to the play on the defensive end of the court. Western is holding opponents to just 34.3 percent shooting from the field, which is tied for best in the conference and seventh in Division II.

Holding teams to just 53.6 points per game, the Mountaineers' scoring defense ranks second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings and ninth nationally.

Defensively,
Tammarrah Gothard leads Western and the RMAC with 39 steals. Gothard's 3.0 steals per game is also best in the conference and is tied for 18
th nationally. Gothard also leads Western with 87 rebounds, grabbing 6.7 per game.

On the offensive side, Western is shooting 43.5 percent from the field as a team this season. That mark ranks second best in the RMAC and ties for 48
th best in Division II. The Mountaineers also have the conference's third best shooting percentage from beyond the arc at 37.3 percent.

Samantha Coleman leads Western in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. Coleman has scored in double figures in the last six games for the Mountaineers and has scored 15 or more points five times this season. Coleman is shooting 50.9 percent from three-point range, making 29-of-57 attempts.

FLC (7-8, 3-6 RMAC) has lost three of the last four, including a 47-60 loss at home to the Colorado School of Mines. The Skyhawks are 12
th in the conference standings.

Friday will be the 84
th game between Western and Fort Lewis, with the Skyhawks holding a 56-27 series advantage. The last Western win against FLC came on Feb. 21, 2009 in Gunnison, 69-61. The last time Western won in Durango, Colorado was on Feb. 23, 2008, with the Mountaineers winning 71-53.

FLC boasts the fourth best scoring offense and defense in the RMAC. The Skyhawks are averaging 69.3 points per game, while holding opponents to an average of 58.6 points per game.

Alyssa Yocky leads FLC in scoring, rebounding and steals. Yocky is averaging 11.9 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game and 2.0 steals per game.

 ASU (1-12, 1-8 RMAC) is currently on a 10-game slide. The last win by the Grizzlies came on Dec. 1 against Fort Lewis, 65-63. Adams is tied for 15
th in the RMAC standings.

Western and Adams have met 86 previous times, with Western winning 46 and losing 40. Last season, the Mountaineers won both matchups against the Grizzlies.

ASU has the third best free-throw shooting percentage in the conference at 72.8 percent.
