T&F | Fehringer fills throws position for Western

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University track & field continues restructuring as Head Track & Field Coach Lindsey Grasmick announces Carly Fehringer as Assistant Track & Field Coach.

Fehringer will be responsible for coaching, administering, and recruiting the throws at Western.

Prior to Western, Fehringer served as a volunteer coach at Wayne State College for four years helping develop a potent throws group with her coach Brett Suckstorf. In that capacity, Fehringer focused on mentoring weight and hammer throwers while helping administer training across the remaining throwing events.

"We are excited to welcome Carly to Western as she brings a wealth of experience in NCAA D-II as an athlete and coach," Head Coach Lindsey Grasmick said. "Aside from her own obvious success as an athlete, she has been a part of developing the continued success of Wayne State throws in the D-II ranks. Her own athletic experience will greatly serve her in mentoring our throws squad."

Before taking on her volunteer role, Fehringer was a standout thrower at Wayne State from 2011-2014. With the Wildcats, she was a four-time All-American and seven-time national qualifier. At the 2014 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships, she finished third in the hammer throw with a heave of 198'11". She was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and Wayne State College Female Athlete of the Year in 2014.

While volunteering at Wayne State, Fehringer continued her own post-collegiate career. A decorated post-collegiate athlete, Fehringer qualified for four U.S. Championships in the hammer throw while also competing in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in the same event.

A Criminology major at Wayne State College, Fehringer earned her Bachelor's degree in 2014. She was awarded the Presidential Scholar Athlete Award at Wayne in 2012.
