GUNNISON, Colo. – After falling behind 15-12 to 25-ranked Colorado Mesa University in Wednesday night's dual, ninth-ranked Western Colorado University came storming back, winning the final four bouts to defeat CMU 33-15.

Brandon Supernaw got the comeback started at 174 pounds. Supernaw earned a second-period pin against CMU's Seth Lathem to put the Mountaineers on top 18-15.

In a pivotal match at 184 pounds Western's
Ruger Wyneken faced CMU's Nolan Krone. After falling behind 5-4 in the third period, Wyneken earned a last second takedown to force overtime. Wyneken then earned the first takedown to win by sudden victory 8-6.

At 197 pounds, second-ranked
Konnor Schmidt clinched the dual victory with a second-period pin against CMU's Anthony Lodermeier. Schmidts pin put Western ahead 27-15.

Sammy deSeriere put the icing on the cake for the Mountaineers. deSeriere tossed CMU's Hunter Mooring to his back and earned a fall just 1:18 into the match, giving Western a 33-15 win.

Trenton Piatt opened the dual for the Mountaineers at 125 pounds with a first-period fall over CMU's Cole Bernstein.

Colby Duncan then followed with an 8-6 decision at 133 pounds over Bracken Lovell to put Western ahead 9-0.

Following a Western forfeit at 141 pounds,
Justin Chenoweth made it 12-6 Western with a 4-2 decision win over the Mavericks' Daniel Van Hoose.

The Mavericks won the next two matches by fall at 157 pounds and by sudden victory at 165 pounds to take a 15-12 lead.

Western earned falls in four-of-seven matches won.

The Mountaineers are now 2-0 this season in duals against top-25 ranked teams.

Western will return to the mat in Newberry, South Carolina for the Newberry Duals on Sunday. Wrestling on the east coast gets started at 6 a.m. (MST) against Coker College. The Mountaineers will then face 10th-ranked Newberry College at 7:30 a.m. (MST) and Limestone College at 9 a.m. (MST).

Western's final dual of the day will come against top-ranked St. Cloud State University at 10:30 a.m. (MST).
