GUNNISON, Colo. – Wrestling fans will get to see How the West was Won Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym as Western State Colorado University hosts Colorado Mesa University. The 15
th ranked Mountaineers will look to extend their four-dual home winning streak.

Thursday's dual is an Operation Red Event, so all fans are encouraged to wear red to support the Mountaineers. Western wrestling will also be handing out free red-out t-shirts to the first fans through the gate.

Western (9-4, 2-1 RMAC) is coming off a 26-18 win over No. 10 University of Central Oklahoma last Saturday in Paul Wright Gym.

The Mountaineers lead the all-time series against CMU, 28-25-1, and defeated the Mavericks earlier in the season, 30-13.

CMU (3-8-1, 1-2-1 RMAC) enters the week after losing to No. 9 California Baptist University 36-9.

The Mavericks are currently receiving votes as a team in the Division II rankings, and have one wrestler ranked at their weight. Payton Tawater sits fourth at 157 pounds for CMU.

Western boasts three wrestlers ranked in the national poll.
Trenton Piatt is ranked eighth at 125 pounds,
Brandon Supernaw is ranked fifth at 174 pounds, and
Konnor Schmidt is ranked fifth at 197 pounds.

Following Thursday's How the West was Won dual, the Mountaineers will travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.

Tickets to the conference championships are $10 and all kids eighth grade and younger get into the event free of charge.

Wrestling at the RMAC Championships begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude with the finals matches starting at 4 p.m. Brackets will be released Friday afternoon.
