GUNNISON, Colo. – It was a quick dual for the Mountaineer grapplers of Western State Colorado University on Friday night. No. 15 Western won 8-of-10 matches, scoring bonus points in six of those bouts, to defeat the Colorado School of Mines 34-9 in Paul Wright Gym.

The dual between Western (9-3, 3-0 RMAC) and CSM (7-1, 1-1 RMAC) started at 141 pounds. The Mountaineers would take the first seven matches, earning bonus points in six bouts.

Western's 141-pound
Jody Sandoval set the tone for the dual, pinning Lukas Erickson in the first period.

Justin Chenoweth then came from behind to defeat CSM's Noah Ottum by a 12-8 decision.

The Mountaineers won the next three bouts all by major decision.
Shawn Beiriger at 157 pounds, won his match 9-1, and was followed by
Michael Thelen's 10-2 victory at 165 pounds and No. 6
Brandon Supernaw's 17-4 win at 174 pounds.

After a short intermission,
Brendan Gonzales stepped on the mat for the 184 pound bout. It took Gonzales only 34 seconds to earn a win by fall over CSM's Connor Ventura.

The Orediggers got on the scoreboard winning the 285 pound match by a 16-11 decision.

However, No. 8
Trenton Piatt earned those three points back with a 3-1 decision, defeating CSM's Zachary Gracia.

The Orediggers ended the dual with a fall at 133 pounds, but the Mountaineers came away with a 34-9 dual victory.

Western will continue the season next Wednesday on the road for a dual against No. 5 Colorado State University – Pueblo.
