MBB | Western takes win streak on the road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following three straight wins, the Western State Colorado University men's basketball team hits the road to keep the streak alive. Friday night, Western squares off against University of Colorado at Colorado Spring with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. Saturday, Western travels up 1-25 to test Metropolitan State University of Denver at 7:00 p.m.

Following a sweep at home that included a win over then #22 Colorado School of Mines, Western (7-10, 5-6 RMAC) has won four of their last five games. Coincidentally, the recent string of success for the Mountaineers began with a win at home against UCCS.

A surging Mountaineer squad continues to be led by the consistent scoring threat of Collin Smith. While Smith leads the team with 15.6 points per game, teammate Ben Beauchamp also maintains a 15.5 point clip.

Through the win streak, Western has also seen Quincy Harding emerge as critical scoring threat. Over the last four games, Harding has scored more than 15 points three times, highlighted by a career high at Western 25 points against Colorado Christian. Brady Subart has also been a driver of recent success scoring 23, 17, and 14 points respectively over the last three games – including the game winning three-pointer against Mines.

At UCCS (6-11, 3-8 RMAC), welcomes Western to Gallogly Events Center having split their last two games. The Mountain Lions dropped their last game to Western 72-77. A statistically similar opponent, UCCS is aggressive on the boards, maintaining a 4.8 rebounding margin over their opponents. Three Mountain Lions average double-digit scoring with Elijah Ross leading the way at 14.5 points per game. Ross is also one of the best passers in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 2.5 assist to turnover ratio.

Against MSU-Denver (9-8, 8-3 RMAC) finds the third ranked team in the RMAC. After a tough preseason schedule, the Roadrunners have found success in the conference schedule, winning their last two games. MSU-Denver boasts a stingy defense holding opponents to just over 70 points per game. Cameron Williams is the dominant scoring threat for the Roadrunners averaging 20.5 points, good for second in the RMAC. On the opposite side of the ball, Bounama Keita is also a statistical threat, ripping down 8.2 rebounds per game.

If you can't make it to the Front Range to watch the Mountaineers, you can always follow the action through live stats or the Stretch Internet portal.
