WBB | Mountaineers at home to open 2017

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball begins 2017 with a pair of home games this weekend. The Mountaineers host Regis University on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming Chadron State College to Paul Wright Gym for a 5 p.m. game on Saturday.
 
Western (3-8, 2-5 RMAC) makes their first appearance in Gunnison in nearly one month. The Mountaineers are coming off a three-game road trip, defeating New Mexico Highlands University in the process.
 
The Mountaineers are currently 13th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings. However, Western is just one win away from ninth place in the conference.
 
Leading the Mountaineers in scoring and rebounding is Harlie Williams. Williams is averaging 9.5 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.
 
Western has a pair of promotions during the weekend fans can take advantage of. All Gunnison Watershed School District children will receive free entry to Friday's games against Regis with a paying adult.
 
Following the Tracy Borah Duals and before Western women's basketball game on Saturday, fans will have to opportunity to be a Mountaineer Athletic Association VIP for a night. The MAA VIP room will be open to all Mountaineer fans and will be located in Paul Wright Gym Classroom 15, just below the gym on the south east side of the building. Classroom 15 was the old Athletics weight room.
 
Regis (10-2, 5-2 RMAC) enters Friday night's contest having lost to Fort Lewis College, 58-49, on New Year's Eve. The Rangers are tied for fourth in the RMAC standings and are ranked second in the conference for average points allowed per game at 55.7.
 
Chante Church leads the Rangers in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game. This ranks ninth best in the RMAC.
 
Chadron State (3-8, 3-5 RMAC) is one game ahead of the Mountaineers and tied for ninth place in the conference. The Eagles won their last game of 2016, with a one-point win over Adams State University in Chadron, Nebraska.
 
As a team, Chadron has the third best free-throw percentage in the conference at 73.4 percent. Kalli Feddersen leads the Eagles' scoring attack, averaging the eighth most points in the RMAC with 13.0 points per game.
