GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University women's basketball team look to gather a win as the team travels to Durango, Colorado to take on Fort Lewis College Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., and then take on Adams State University Saturday evening.
Â
The Mountaineers (4-15, 2-15 RMAC) have come up just short in two of their last four games, sending both games to overtime. Western is excited for both their matchups, as Fort Lewis (13-9, 9-8 RMAC) provides a good challenge with a well balanced attack. The Mountaineers also look to take down the Grizzlies (2-18, 1-16 RMAC) by distributing the ball well and attack them from deep as the Grizzlies are giving up nearly eight deep baskets a game.
Â
Western State is led by point guard
Taylor Long in scoring (14.6), rebounds (141), assists (51), and steals (26). Right behind her in three of those categories is center
Sydnie Lengyel. Lengyel is second on the team in points per game (7.7), rebounds (137), and is tied for second in assists with 24.
Â
Also for the Mountaineers, sharp shooter
Harlie Williams has found her stroke, sinking 42 percent of her shots from deep. She also leads the team with 15 total blocks.
Â
The Mountaineers return home next weekend for the final two home games of the 2015-16 season. The team hosts Colorado School of Mines Friday at 5:30 p.m., then Colorado Christian Saturday at 5 p.m.
