WBB | Grizzlies and Skyhawks in Gunnison this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Looking for their first conference win, Western State Colorado University women's basketball hosts Adams State University and Fort Lewis College this weekend in Paul Wright Gym. The Mountaineers will face rivals Adams State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before hosting Fort Lewis at 5 p.m. on Saturday night.

Western (1-5, 0-2 RMAC) is looking to bounce back after suffering a loss to Westminster College on the road last Friday. Despite an early season loss, the Mountaineers are taking care of the ball and lead the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in turnover margin at 2.0.

Harlie Williams continues to lead Western's scoring efforts, averaging a team-high 10.2 points per game. Her 42.5 three-point field goal percentage (17-of-40) is second best in the RMAC, and she is averaging 2.8 three-pointers made per game. The senior also leads the Mountaineers in total rebounds with 33.

ASU (1-4, 0-2 RMAC) is also looking for their first RMAC victory of the year. The Grizzlies lost both conference contests this past weekend to New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado State University – Pueblo.

The Grizzlies defend well against three-point field goals and hit the offensive glass hard. ASU ranks third in the RMAC forcing opponents to shoot a mere 24.4 percent from beyond the arc. They are also the conference's third best team when it comes to offensive rebounding, averaging 14.6 per game.

Cydney McHenry and Brianna Reyna are the leading scorers for ASU. McHenry is averaging 8.4 points per game, while Reyna averages 8.0 points.

FLC (5-1, 1-1 RMAC) opened the conference season last weekend by splitting a pair of home games. After falling to CSU-Pueblo, the Skyhawks defeated NMHU 79-48 the following night.

The Skyhawks' defense has been a problem for opponents this season as they have held teams to an RMAC leading 32.8 percent shooting from the field. FLC also has the third highest scoring margin in the conference at 9.8 points more than their opponents on average.

Briana Clah and Alyssa Yocky have been the Skyhawks top scorers this season. Clah is averaging 12.2 points per game, while Yocky averages 11.8 points.

Fans unable to make the games in Gunnison this weekend can follow live online (live stats, live video). The games will also be broadcasted over the airwaves on KEJJ 98.3 FM in the Gunnison Valley.

Also this weekend, one lucky fan will win a 43" Smart TV on Friday night. Western's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be giving the television away during halftime of the women's basketball game against ASU this Friday.

All proceeds from the SAAC TV ticket sales will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish serves a unique, and vital, role in helping strengthen and empower children battling life-threatening medical conditions.

Normally $2 per ticket, SAAC will be selling tickets at a discounted rate of $1 per ticket before and leading up to halftime of the women's basketball game.

Fans will not need to be present during the ticket drawing to win the television.
