MANHEIM, Pa. The National Wrestling Coaches Association on Thursday released its final regular season rankings for NCAA Division II, a national poll that shows Western Colorado cracking the top 25 and a pair of Mountaineers earning spots within the individual rankings.
Western earned it first time in the team rankings with Thursday's 24th place, after posting in the Receiving Votes section all season.
Climbing into the NWCA poll was buoyed by
Devin Gomez and
Vincent Cabral being ranked in their respective weight class rankings.
Gomez climbed all the way from unranked up to No. 6 at the 125 weight, while Cabral, who has been in the individual rankings since the December 17 poll release, is 12th in the just-released 157 class rankings.
The Mountaineers finished out the regular season schedule with four wins in their last five duals, wins that included a 20-18 victory over No. 17 Chadron State and a season-ending 26-18 victory over No. 21 Colorado Mesa University.
Western next heads to the DII Super Region VI Championships in Golden, Colo., on Feb. 28.
